Mikey is the king of economy in today's crop of boxers, minimal movement for maximum results. I feel his defense is the most intriguing part of this fight, as it really compliments counter punching. He parries punches with one glove, then readies the other for a counter. For the body shots he lowers his upper body, then twists to parry incoming shots with his elbows.

For footwork he steps back just enough to take a shot at the tail end to minimize being pushed off balance, and once again is in a much better position to counter. This in general makes it really tough to have a high output against him. However Mikey's jab will be around Spence's hook range. So what range exactly does Mikey plan to do most of his work from, I really have no idea how as Mikey may even need to come forward to get in range, as Spence uses his jab quite a lot.

I'm starting to look forward to this fight a lot more than when it was originally announced. I feel Mikey is a live dog, but this is 12 rounds of Spence, who is absolutely relentless at pressuring his opponents. Can't wait.

Nice post. Sums up my thoughts on the subject (except for the welter part...that never struck me unusual one way or the other).

i did not give mikey a chance at first, his size and training methods didnt inspire confidence in him winning. i now feel he is a very live dog. he seems to be investing the sweat into gaining the size, while keeping the speed. i always felt he had the accuracy, if not the power, to keep spence from just mauling him, just didnt feel he had the strength to endure what spence is going to bring. he is starting to look like he is going about this in the smartest possible way. his ring iq is at the highest levels, now he may be getting the tools to use that iq vs a man like spence.

    Doesn’t look great.

Terrible fight for him - Garcia is getting beaten.

I think he wanted this fight for a reason. The Garcias clearly believe they see something in Spence which is signficantly exploitable... so the fight will be interesting.

Will Garcia manage to win as a result of finding a way to exploit the things he believes Spence is deficient in? Or will Garcia be battered and/or comprehensively broken down? Will somebody be KTFO and "exposed" as a hypejob? Will hiring Victor Conte be enough? We shall find those things out.

A fight between M. Garcia and either V. Lomachenko or T. Crawford would've been even more interesting (to me) though. It's a shame that neither of those fights happened when they should've, nor are they even likely to happen any time soon... if ever.

Rooting for Mikey here you can't knock anyone who's daring to be great. If he pulls it off he'll be P4P #1.

What can he possibly exploit? Garcia must have seen something. Why take the fight? Crazy props to him.
