'Representing myself and my country' but black people weren`t treated wwell in the US in the 70`s Ray.
He didn't partake in the identity politics/BLM crap that Kaepernick and Co. partake in today. He knew that only in the US could a poor kid use his talent and charisma to rise up from poverty to make mega millions. He put being American over being black. You can call it being an uncle Tom. I call it assimilation.
I watched SRL put a whupping on that Cuban (a southpaw I think), just after I was discharged from Viet Nam Era military obligation...plus seeing ex-Marine Leon get up off the canvas and k.o. another "unbeatable" Cuban, and Michael Spinks, Leo Randolph, & Howard Davis also taking home Gold. Me and all my ex-military buddies went down to the corner bar and lifted quite a few cool ones to our American fighters.
Unfortunately you were not there to explain to Sugar Ray the implications of being black and American.
My Gandmother was though, because she was black, yet she had straight hair because of her Spanish bloodline, this is due to the fact that she was born in Panama and had African, plus Spanish ancestry due to the slave trade in Panama`s past, where they used African slaves in Panama just like they did in the US. My Gran moved to the US as a young child and stayed there until she was a young adult when she moved to Jamaica, where my dad was born, I just don`t like black Americans waving the American flag, after all that was done to blacks right up to the 60`s and beyond and by the way thee are documentries shown hee in England about racism in America (mainly in the 60`s) over 500 black people were shot by merican policeman in one year and this was just a couple of years ago, don`t tell anyone because it`s a secret here in England.
Wow I guess Sugar Ray and George Foreman better watch themselves around you with your Panamanian Grandma and all those documentaries! I don’t think their combined 142 years of life experience can stand up to that!
142 years is longer than Malcolm X spent living under capialist nationalism. This content is protected
Mark Ant SJW. Lol. Leonard and Foreman refused to think of themselves as victims, worked hard and we're rewarded handsomely.
It really was an inspirational performance by the 76 USA Olympic team. Ali, the 76 team and the movie Rocky got me to pay attention to Boxing. When I got home after seeing Rocky, I started punching walls lightly in a hyperactive frenzy. Lol
