Hit him a lot to the body clean aswell. Dirrel was washed up and we knew he had b I t c h in him. Uzcatchagei looked like tish in his previous fight.
Congrats to Plant. It did seem to me he was being too nice by moments, and not going after UZ when he had him hurt (maybe still has bad mitts ??) Nothing wrong with his chin, maybe short on stamina and some worrying tactics on the inside in the later rds. He's going to need to fix that if he wants to hang to his belt.
You can still vote I took my original prediction of Uzcat by KO, but 20/20 hindsight is in play here.
Plant did good, 8-4 I scored it for Caleb, good performance especially in the first 6-7 rounds, maybe the year lay off and lack of championship experience played a part in him tiring but he set a hell of a pace in the early rounds, his work rate was unbelievable
Good fight hadn't even heard of Plant prior to this fight. Very good boxer, thought Plant had the perfect game plan against Uzcategui and it was obvious early on that Uz was not going to outbox him. I watched the face off between the two on Saturday and could tell Plant was on a serious mission, good on him, very deserving win.
I think Plant is naturally cautious and didn’t wanna risk trying to take him out. The year lay off probably affected him, he definitely needs to work on his stamina but the lack of 12 round fights won’t have helped him either - that was only his 2nd one. He has a lot to work on but if he was to keep up his boxing from the first few rounds for a whole fight then he’d be a good champion.
Also he stopped taking any risks the last 3 rds and waited to hear the final bell. Boxing's unwritten rule is you go out in the 12 th and leave no doubt. So, if this was abroad instead of at home, not sure the decision would have gone his way.
Nowhere on earth would Uzcátegui got a decision. 8-4 plant was his moms scorecard and he got dropped twice.
I don't understand how that assessment, which I think is spot on and an astute analysis of the fight matches up to your scorecard which is so outside what I saw that it seems almost bizarre! Do you give Uz rounds simply for being aggressive? I thought Uz was mostly outboxed from start to finish, maybe gave him 3 or 4 rounds at the most, he did get slightly better as Plant tired, but with the knockdowns I though a widish margin fair. I honestly don't know how you can score that fight for Uz.
I think he was boxing according to a plan. I think I heard his corner shouting 'dont get greedy' at one point. They got a point lead and sought to retain it without risking overextending.
