Would Povetkin vs Ortiz clear up some of the smoke? Povetkin had a good streak of wins on paper but the devil is in the details. Perez: admittedly drunk vs Povetkin. Duhaupas: on less than a day's notice & didn't even have a pair of Boxing shoes. It would be billed Povetkin-Ortiz because it would be in Russia. But I pick Ortiz to counter KO Povetkin out cold. Who do you think would win?
Whoever loses will diminish Wilder or AJ`s wins v these old fellas, Ortiz is the better fighter, but didn`t look good enough to beat Povetkin in his last bout, either one of these could age overnight, could be a case of who`s got more left, Povetkin seems to be the better finisher to me.
Povetkin is past it and Ortiz isn’t any good either and has been made out to be something he isn’t . It’s a genuine 50/50 of who has more left in the tank - narrowly Povetkin.
Povetkin would be outsized Ortiz looks like a ninja turtle Povetkin is no match. Don't you think Povetkin always gets hurt vs Elite Punchers?
Tossup matchup. I would pick whoever is better conditioned. I'd go with the Povetkin in the Joshua fight over Ortiz in the Wilder fight. So I'm thinking Povetkin has the advantage if he's decided to fight on into 2019 and appear on this upcoming Joshua card. That's plenty of time to get into excellent condition.
I'd love to see this fight, it's a great one on paper, but I'd lean towards Povetkin, he looked like he had more left in the tank in their respective last fights. Also Ortiz likes to fight at his own pace, which I think would be his downfall as Povetkin will make him work for 3 minutes of every round as he superb at putting pressure on fighters with footwork alone.
I'll love to see this fight just so I can go dig up those old comments where some asswipe nearly melted the internet down because some of us picked Povetkin over Ortiz. I'm still picking Povetkin over Ortiz in the Battle Of The Geezers in the Freezer. Edit: Whoever loses can pack their bags, they're done at the top level.
The outcome of this fight is more important to Wilder than AJ. Ortiz is Wilder's defining "big win". If Povetkin blasts him out then we pretty much know that Povetkin would have blasted Wilder out as well when they were scheduled to fight. If Ortiz wins AJ can shrug and say "I beat Takam, Wlad, Whyte and Parker as well. So what?" If I were Camp Wilder I'd be looking to make that AJ fight sooner rather than later.
Povetkin pummels Ortiz. Ortiz' main weakness is that his movement isn't really there. The skills are, but the movement is lacking. The hooks will land with ease. Povetkin in 4 rounds.
