I think there's been plenty of threads and stories over the years here and elsewhere about how Frazier felt about Ali but you can look it up yourself ... if you really want to.

Marciano died 3 weeks after filming wrapped. How good of friends could he and Ali have become?

He didn't have very good things to say about Ali in any of his many interviews with Howard Stern. Also, I seem to recall Joe having some pretty vitriolic opinions about Muhammad in his book that came out in the mid-90s.

Marciano lost like 40 pounds for this. Think he weighed around 212 if I remember correctly. Looks like he carried it well (for that age). Even though he died shortly after him Ali had built a bond from this that they previously didn’t have. Would be in my top three dream fights ever.

I don't think he liked Ali, total opposites as men.

Marciano rsc 13 and a cut eye stoppage for Ali can be found on Youtube. I remember seeing a draw ending many years ago.
New book on Marciano states that there were made 7 different endings, I cannot verify that.

Watching the Patterson/Chuvalo fight on which Ali was a guest commentator in 1965, he did refer to Marciano as "my idol".

I agree completely, except you must mean a bit shy of 50, not 60 years.

Ali was both great & deeply flawed.
Occasionally Ali & Frazier said nice things about each other. Frazier was gracious after Ali died, & able to be more forgiving.
Ali startled Wepner with accusing him of using a racial epithet falsely. But then he winked & indicated it was to sell tickets.
Ali might have teased Wepner, I do not think Wepner ever thought he was serious or there was bad blood between them, & Wepner liked Ali.

NOT SO with Frazier. What Ali did was unrelenting abuse & public humilation.
Which had Frazier's kids picked on.
Which Ali LIED, at least to himself, that was only to sell tickets-or at best he did not *care* how vicious he was. For years.

After Frazier INTERCEDED for him at the highest levels, with the White House, to help get his license back.
After Frazier gave ali MONEY when Ali was banned from bocxing & hard up.
This conduct is properly called a vicious BETRAYAL.

Ali also used ugly anti-black stereotypes about Frazier, "Gorilla", "Ugly", calling him dumb, etc.
Ali also pretended HE was the more legitimate black figure/representative-Frazier was the one who came up hard, poor, & had to literally flee, possibly for his life, away from his family after standing up to a white racist.

Ali preached segregation & MURDER of black people by blacks as late as the famous 1975 Playboy interview. Very easy to find/.
He spoke at a KKK rally for chissakes: a surreal moment where they were all in accords against integration. FInd the video.

Ali was great in many ways, including for black empowerment, & speaking truth to power & whites & was a brilliant Clown Prince...

But lert's not pretend his hateful, callous & cruel side was remotely excusable.
He should have apologized directly AND very publicly to Frazier-Frazier sent his emmisary away & said send Ali. Ali was not decent or big enough to come.

He did this to Joe Frazier for years, much worse offenses than violating his word to crawl across the ring on his hands & knees & proclaim Frazier the greatest if he lost the FOTC.

People take sides & ignore the truth because they like or hate a fighter.

Nah, Ali was not "teasing" Frazier.
And in that case he was ADDING to racist cliches & hate;for his own glorification.

Frazier was very forgiving when Ali died, because Frazier was dead for nearly 5 years at that point.

I think Ali grew to respect Marciano as a boxer. The best story in the filming was Ali targeting Marciano's toupe and knocking it off. Rocky unloaded a vicious body shot on Ali as if to say don't ever do that again.

Ali was a very racist man back then. He didn't like losing the " computer fight " to Marciano.

In fact, he sued Murry Woroner for losing in his 1960's computer tournament to Jeffries. Marciano won Murry Worner tournament defeating Jack Dempsey in the finals.

Fans of the sport should hear these radio fights. Experts of the time who saw past legends live give their analysis. Its as if they were living today.

That's a possibility too, but I like to think that Marciano broke the mold with Ali's racism

I agree Ali's treatment of Frazier was contemptible and his political views were extreme, but Frazier did throw the first punch by calling Ali by his original name "Clay". He did this as early as 1967, when he was an up-and-comer, and Ali had just been exiled from boxing.
