Why don't more people give Floyd credit for his Rope a Dope tactics later in career?

I get so annoyed when people say Floyd 'runs'.....in which fights exactly?

I remember against biggest strongest hitters like Canelo, Cotto and Manny and even old Vic Ortiz I remember Floyd laying back on the ropes and twisting and turning while those guys shot their whole wads and then firing back on them, with pinpoint accuracy I might ad.

And of all those guys the only one to really land anything was Cotto...

The only fight I can ever remember seeing Floyd 'running' was may be against Carlos Baldomirs, and to be honest I'd have to watch it again I haven't seen that fight in about 13 years

This. In the Canelo, Cotto, PAC, Maidana, and Ortiz fights Floyd had old legs and couldn't really run even if he wanted to. By 2010 and after Floyd's handspeed, reflexes, and legs weren't half of what they used to be and he was getting by on his ring IQ, defense, and timing, which in my opinion was very impressive, since most fighters once they lose their speed and reflexes can't stay at the top like he did.

Yeah it amuses me when people criticize Mayweather for "running" or being a "runner." It's a dead giveaway that don't actually watch boxing anymore and that their opinions shouldn't be taken seriously. Also speaks to their overall credibility.

Personally I think it is simply Floyd does not have an exciting crowd pleasing style....and the majority do not like him.

Once fans (I hate most boxing fans lol, but very few boxers), hate you or dislike you it becomes very difficult to give them credit. Canelo can’t get credit in any thread because of how many hate him..,

DLH gets ripped constantly....hard for some guys to discuss with a rational unbiased dialogue.

Ive only come across it when speaking with casual sports fans who have this perception. The thing that makes Mayweather, Mayweather is his pocket defense. Why expend energy running?

Floyd likes to hold as soon as someone gets in punching range. A real turn off to watch. Maidana rematch is a perfect example. He gets a couple shots off then grabs and holds. Not entertaining whatsoever

The hate that Floyd receives is mostly from people who just don't like his personality and lifestyle rather than his fighting style.

He was not very effective against the ropes. Maidana and Castillo pounded him there

I've always been of the opinion that, once his undefeated record got to (circa) 40 or so; he disappointed the common folk fans who shelled out big bucks to see him only to watch him use his excellent defensive skills to keep his record intact. He and Pac should have fought years earlier etc..., though that may not be completely his fault. When he and Pac finally fought, I wasn't going to spend a penny on paying to see the fight; my pre-fight 'analysis' proved this 100%.

I have the floyd argument 3outta7 times a week. People see I runner I see a technically sound boxing genius with arguably the greatest ring IQ of all time

probably because he didn't have a Foreman in front of him to showcase it. He just had guys he could probably have beaten with out that tactic and he choose to bore the place as he usualy does, and the fighters were usualy handpicked at the right time.

So much hate for one man. Such a waste of energy.
