Whyte's left hook seems to be one of the hardest single shots in the current HW division. Whyte knocked out cold Lucas Browne and Dereck Chisora with a single left hook, knocked down Parker and hurt AJ. Brown's chin isn't very good, but Chisora can take a punch as well as Joseph Parker. AJ's chin is also pretty good in my opinion.

Whyte obviously isn't very skilled boxer, his speed is average even for a guy of his size, and the technique of his streight right hand is downright awful. But his power is real. That left hook would be dangerous for any fighter in the world. How would you rank it from 1 to 10? 8, 9? And add other fighters with great left hooks to this discussion - Wlad, Tua, Ruddock, Morrison, Povetkin, Tyson, Bowe and Holyfield (yes, Bowe and Holyfield had great left hooks). Can you rate their power (in left hook) as well for comparison?

It's between Whyte and Povetkin for the best hook in the divison.

He has a very good left hook but Povetkin has and has long had the best left hook at HW. Povetkin's left hook is a thing of beauty, especially the way he doubles and triples up on it. He's also long been the best combination puncher at HW as well.

Pinklan Thomas said in a recent interview that Tommy Morrison was the hardest puncher he ever fought.

    BEST PUNCHER
TOMMY MORRISON: Mike Weaver had a big left hook, a good right hand. He hit me with one punch and I felt it big time. I felt Berbick’s punch. Tyson to be honest, the first round was crazy because he was knocking everyone out. I knew he was going to come out strong like that, but after the second round I kind of had Tyson figured out. He wasn’t really reaching me with big punches. It didn’t happen till after the fifth round when my glove got split; I got hit and my right shoulder popped out. I would say when I got hit by [Tommy] Morrison it was like being hit by a baseball bat. I got hit to the ribs and my leg came up, I got hit with one punch and my eye split. Tommy hit me harder than anyone else I was ever hit by.

As the guys above said, between him and Povetkin. I think it's something of preference. I'd give Whyte's hook an 8. It doesn't have the speed and great angles like Povetkin's does, but it makes up for it in just raw power.

Whyte has power but KOing proclaimed domino driver Bloated Browne (hatton said on pills) smoke & mirrors?
    7/10 or 6.5/10 for a Heavyweight.
All pro heavyweights have KO power though so meh.

Browne turned up in terrible shape for Whyte and had been KO'd in sparring by Chisora shortly before. He looked like a 260lb + weeble wobble.

Hmm it LOOKS powerful but he had to really wear chisora down and didnt drop him until the 11th. Chisora might just be getting older because he took flush bombs from whyte all night in their last fight. Parker managed to get back up and wasnt groggy or wobbly at all. AJ doesnt have best chin in the world and he took it flush. Browne was out cold but again, this was after 6 rounds of pounding and no prior knockdown.

Whyte gets a 7/10 for me. Compare it to guys like morrison and tua have multiple vicious 1st and 2nd round knockdown/knockouts where their hooks send 220+ pound man crashing like bowling pins. The force of the hook morrison used on Razor Ruddock in his first knockdown was so powerful Ruddock hit the canvas loud enough that it ECHOED throughout the arena and you could hear the 2x4's cracking. Morrisons hook is at least a 9.

Like cobra said it 'looks like'...if you haven't felt it you can never know.
I know I don't want to find out tho lol.
Visual comparison it looks like a decent punch. It also looks like it's easy to spot, he gets his opponents fired up and doesn't stop till he finds a home for it.

    It's his bread & butter
It was sad, it was like watching an immobile Hogg getting beaten. I was glad they didn't show a replay

Whyte isn't a per punch power puncher besides body shots. He needs to really plant his feet and be at a good angle to twist into a power hook. ,but when he does its very powerful ,short like Frazier technique like the one he hit Parker with ,came right around and whipped it locking his elbow way out.

His punch technique is more pushing his punches and sets up on and off power shots. When he does get behind his shots they are very good.

I'll take the best left hook puncher and power who was Morrison.

The difference between him and Whyte is Tommy hurt you with just about every punch he threw and could hurt you with every left hook not just one waiting to get that impact , bc they were all impactful. Morrison was also heavy handed. Whyte isn't that heavy handed except body punching which hes actually better at and ppl overlook this .

You would have to place like a Frazier like fighter in terms of landing it. He will hit you and hit you and eventually one of those hooks will have a perfect point of impact as the fight goes longer. So I would say somewhere Frazier and Holyfield its just a stunning left when you least expect it like Holyfield but a Frazier torque to it when he's going for that maximum power.

@45 seconds in it really shows how Whyte digs in and throws the left hook.

I would say you got to give him at least an 8. Basing on one shot potential. People forget that hes not a small guy he stands 6'4 and 250 plus at times. that's a lot of leverage and weight coming at you,hes alos pretty strong too even though he doesn't train right in the gym..lol

Hes not the best left hooker on every punch like others but his A left hook is top level.

Guys who had better hooks aren't a lot but I give him Frazier level that's pretty good. ( sorry guys if your looking for popularity you wont find it with me ) I go on real life tangibles. Frazier was more consistent but Dillian has that frame too.

    1. Morrison had the perfect hook and technique with speed and power, accuracy. None better for that one shot . If he actually had better set ups he would have been even more dangerous. It was very hard to get guys once word is out you are a one arm fighter. and he still got people out with the punch they knew was coming. POWER 10

    2. Mike Tyson The shortest hook with almost no weak hit ever.the thing with Tyson is he had a 74 inch reach or so and he would just hit you with a short compact arm with his body generating the motion,it was his second best punch. Most people don't even know he was a born lefty. Its why he fought southpaw first and cus changed him so he was able to actuall fight and switch it up from either side in the peekaboo style. His punches speak for themselves. POWER 9.5

    3. Wlad Klitscko. a devastating punch for two reasons . He hooked a lot of the jab which you didnt see it coming and his speed and power combined when he locked it made it extremely compact . Had he developed this punch more who knows/ I know steward begged him to use it more ,we can see why after the Pulev fight. POWER 9

    4. Razor Ruddock . Another destructive hook ,was even able to take Morrison hook away most of there fight. One of the hardest hooks ever and what made it different is he threw it from hip level so you really had to be aware what you were doing in there. POWER 9.5

    5. Cooney / Tua Really any of these guys in this spot. POWER 9

These who I think had the most effective hooks with power in that order. This doesn't mean punch accumulation ,etc. and even half point difference means another level here.

DILLIAN WHYTE lets say 8.5 .

He has to still work on setting it up a lot better to be included with these guys but its a hard group to get into . I think his overall left hook has developed just because his right needs a lot of work. So we'll see what he does.

Good, power but none of his best punches are better than the devastating bronze bomber and the bodybuilder Joshua. Still a level below those 2. Chisora would have been wiped out in less than 5 rounds, against those huge behemoths. 7
