how shot was Wlad in Fury and AJ fights?

Backside of the mountain for sure, but his style suffers less with age than Wlads

 

He should try smashing a credible opponent first.

Wlad was clearly not shot. He was able to pull the trigger and outboxed Joshua for long stretches. Shot fighters don't do that. Wlad was old as ****, what he was. But he was still in great shape, fully motivated and fought a tremendous fight.

 

Do you consider 'slower' = 'shot' though?

To me, shot fighters have lost their punch resistance and stopping power. They're unlikely to make the distance, their physical decline is such that even their technique which is all they're now relying on may begin to slip.

I look at Wlad then the same way I look at Frampton now. They're both past their very best, but because their best was very good and they're looking after themselves they're not shot, just diminished...

He was passed his prime when he fought both. Wasn't shot. You need to learn what to look for in terms of shot fighters

 

I agree with on Fury but not on AJ. Wlad was one punch away from putting AJ away. That fight could easily have gone either way. AJ was totally gassed at one point and had Wlad been younger he would have stopped AJ.

 

I think if Wlad comes back tomorrow he beats all the HWs minus AJ and Usyk.

I think was in better shape against AJ than he was in Fury fight, came in the lightest he had done in over 7 years if i recall correctly.

 

Shot to me means your reflexes are gone. You can see the openings but you can’t pull the trigger.
Wlad remained in great shape and had great technique but his athleticism was greatly diminished. He was so good for so long it was bound to happen. Still only the best of the best would be able to beat him

 

Shot to me is when you cannot physically fight the way you're used to doing and it shows when fighting at a level below your usual operation. You kinda can't always pinpoint it until you see it. I guess when you're less than 75% of what you was previously perhaps.

Wlad certainly wasn't shot in either fight. Past his best, sure.

 

Wasn't shot enough for Wilder to agree to fight him.

He was clearly well past his prime, been saying for years he hasn't looked the same and been in decline since the Pianeta fight in 2013 when he was 37.

But he wasn't shot. You want to see what a shot fighter looks like, watch Stiverne vs Wilder and his fight to come vs Joyce. Wlad in his last fight did better vs Joshua than any fighter has, no fighter who is shot is arguably the 3rd best fighter in their division. He's less co-ordinated, he's slower but his legs are still good making him agile still, he still is sharp enough to see opening and slip shots. Shot fighters don't have the reflexes to do what Wlad was doing in his last few fights. A shot Wlad would of lost to Jennings. If you think he was shot you don't know what shot means.

 

Fury beats both brothers on the same night in their absolute primes.

AJ gets knocked out by both in their primes.

Wilder lands something against Vlad and it could get interesting. He gets punished by Vtali.

 

I don't think he was shot, he was on the downside,but he would have kept beat the guys he did before since he was bigger. Then he fought Fury and Joshua and these guys were big and young, and they edged him. He really did put on two decent fights.

 

I just think Wlad came up against two very good fighters - undoubtedly the best he's faced in his career. The Joshua fight was one of his best performances, he just came up short against a younger, hungrier opponent.
