Close fight either quartet won it by a point or it was a draw.

It was one of my favourite fights to watch. The last round was so excited. I think that the rope and corner help Quartey to survive the second KD in the last round.

Given that Oscar De La Hoya was a massive draw and household name. Why weren't his controversial fights with Quartey, Trinidad and Mosley (particularly the 2nd one), the subject of more debate.

I dont understand that. Considering we've had to endure literally a decade and a half of Pac haters giving us revisionist history that Marquez beat Pacquiao.

Oscar was an even bigger draw than Manny and was involved in even more high profile decisions.

That fight proved without a doubt what observers had already witnessed in Hoya's previous high profile fights vs Camacho and especially Whitaker: when faced against young elite competition, in his own natural weight class, and even faded one, he just wasn't good enough.

Quartey put a dress on him in rds 6 to 9: Hoya was running for his life like a scared rabbit. He conveniently found his balls in the last rd, with Quartey getting drained from the constant chasing, and even then flurried like an ineffective, amateur drunken ballroom brawler. Lederman had him the loser.

Of course it didn't prevent him running his mouth in the post fight conference and to refuse a rematch, until even the industry got tired of his antics and inflated narcissism and served him a piece of his own medicine vs Trinidad.

His last fight was the perfect epilogue to his career: a crushing defeat vs a boxer he had artificially stacked everything against in order to ensure another empty victory.

PS: how convenient wikipedia has forgotten about this fight, lol. Hoya still needs to pull everybody's strings even to this day.

One of the big controversial fights in the boxing history. IMO it should been a draw. If Quartey had not been knocked down in round 12 then he could have won the fight.

Oscar was quicker and landed more in a good fight when they finally would hurt or land on the other one. The fight was in spurts. It was cautious. and one guy would be hit and that is when the other guy went for it and then was countered. I thought Quartey fought too cautiously in light of the fact Oscar has the speed, and if neither guy is landing much, Oscar wins the rounds.

Quartey was a terrific fighter at 147 to bad he never had a shot against Tito or Mosley, Imo he would've beaten Mosley and loses to Tito in a close fight

The last real bout of Oscar's career as a full time fighter, before he begin to sully himself by becoming more and more a promoter.

It's like trying to pin point cancer.

I think back in the day as of my last re-watch I had Isufu by a round...

There was a really well-made video by @Rumsfeld a few years ago dissecting all the controversial decisions (both in & not in his favor) of DLH's career. We both agreed that a draw was the worst case for Ike, IIRC..

Man this was a hell of a fight!! Tito end Mosley wanted no part of quartey! Nobody really wanted to give him but Oscar took the challenge and won it. I had him down by a pint going into the 12th!!! That knockdown made all the difference!!!
