Mikey Garcia doesn't have a win that's better than Gary Russell, Walters, Rigo or Linares. His best wins are on par with Pedraza. He is no Loma. He wanted none of that work. Anyways, I do kinda like the guy and it would have pained me to see him smeared across the canvas by Spence. Luckily, this fight will be a huge disappointment as Robert throws in the towel at the very first sign of genuine punishment. Towel will fly by 5th round.
If he wins, he shoots straight to No. 1 P4P. If nothing else, you have to admire the courage to jump up to take a fight like this, daring to be great. If he's successful, anyone who hates on him is nothing but a silly fanboy of someone else.
This might sound stupid. But I always looked at fighters hand sizes to determine natural size, and Mikey's hand and Spence are not too different. Also, standing side by side guys look their full height, but in the ring they bend down to be more at the range of the opponent. Who stands straight up when the opponent is lower. Hearns bent a little when he fought all the guys he fought shorter, even Duran. His reach and speed are what won him that fight, but I just don't think Spence is a Hearns, and Mikey is not Duran. I am not a big Spence fan. He is a bad position. If the fight goes the distance even, he looked bad. Everyone is expecting an early stoppage. Spence still has to take chances to do that and Mikey is good. Remember Duran landed some right hands on Hearns. There is never a sure easy fight against someone who is at the top level and if there is, it was probably a little luck. I don't think if Spence wins that Garcia's career is hurt too much. As long as he is strong mentally he can come back and just say he lost and he moved on and became better and had the strength to fight again at the top level. Everyone loses. I think the fact he is taking this big chance says more about him.
The only reason mikey isn’t one of the faces of boxing right now is because he’s American. If he was from Mexico he’d be bigger then canelo.
Or if he was a vato maybe more popular. That thug appeal like Fernando Vargas. Garcia doesn't have a great personality imo. But beating Spence is unimaginable
nope, check the most popular celebrated boxers from mexico they are all fair skinned white Mexicans ... Salvador Sanchez, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., Canelo. then we go to the indigenous looking brown boy indian types ... ie Morrales, Marquez, Barrera . etc Racisim / classism exists.
You are right Mikey is American as to why he isn’t as popular as he would be if he was from Mexico. Americans of Hispanic decent are never accepted by Mexican people.
The face of boxing should be Loma or Usyk but it's AJ and Canelo and no one is coming close to them in a long while.
