Yeah agreed with the consensus. Fury has got really good momentum since the wilder fight, if the rematch doesn’t happen next then he needs to at least fight one of these.... Whyte Ortiz Brezeale Pulev Kownacki
Fury has yet to demonstrate his ability to generate money though. Just because an organisation are paying him a lot doesn't prove he's capable of doing big numbers.
I agree with the suggestion that they may throw money at other fighters, most likely Joshua. But that's because they know that is what is needed to generate major heavyweight money. Someone paying a lot for Fury to be tied up to a contract doesn't necessarily make him popular. We'll wait and see how he does in his next fight.
Alot of fighters won't fancy Fury because of his size and boxing ability. Most educated fighters will know they will likely get outboxed. So it comes down to offering wodgers of cash since Fury doesn't have a belt (although of course he should have the WBC). I doubt Whyte fancies facing Fury - really batch match up for him.
I know plus UK tv and gate money, Fury is likely to make £22-25m per fight, not bad for someone who has no popularity and who is boring lol.
Once again, just because they're willing to pay decent money doesn't make it necessarily so that Fury is popular. Saying Fury 'can't draw flies' is based on how well his fights have sold until now, and the answer is that they haven't sold particularly well. My guess is that ESPN are looking at the longer term eventuality of broadcasting Fury v Joshua as the biggest fight in boxing, and the easiest way to try and get a guaranteed slice of that today was to sign Fury up. The devil as ever will be in the detail, and given how rich Joshua has become on the back of his career thus far, will be still remain in the driving seat when negotiations start? The odd thing about this announcement is that we don't have an opponent for Fury, we don't have a date for Fury, and yet the people who apparently don't care at all about money are clearly delirious about Tyson's pay packet. Even if it makes it harder to make the big fights.
Of course he’s ‘popular’ (sounds like high school this). He’s just had £80m thrown at him because the broadcaster knows that the American public are interested in the fella. You were wrong, Tony. I’m often wrong so don’t worry about it. It’s best to hold your hands up or just stay quiet but to keep sticking to your narrative looks a little futile.
You're confusing value with popularity. You can keep pretending Tyson is massively popular with the American public, but your reasons for this aren't based on things like viewing figures. They're based on what a television company are prepared to pay him. I mean, I won't be wrong if his next fight is a box office bomb that flops badly will I? You can't just keep saying 'but he gets paid a lot' if he doesn't sell many PPV's or tickets.
I’m not pretending. He’s a real, massively flawed character, a great talker, charismatic, vulnerable...whilst people over there will have heard of Joshua & Wilder, they know Fury’s story and they’ve seen him get absolutely bingo’d in so many memes, tv clips whilst Wilder danced away and put his finger across his throat only for Fury to not only get back up, but put his hands behind his back then put it on Wilder. That’s real, Tony and people admire it.
people talk about recent form and the best fighting the best: taking the last four fights looking at it OBJECTIVELY who have the "top three faced" Fury: Undefeated for 11 years, super champion VLAD in his own backyard Undefeated Wilder in his own backyard Wilder: Undefeated lineal champion Fury Undefeated Ortiz (some call him the division's boogeyman) Joshua: Shot old midget alec povetkin Shot old retired winless in three years never fought again grey haired saggy backed VLAD coming off a loss
This is maybe a little harshly written but accurate. Joshua needs the big fight to appease his disgruntled fans and that's why his percentage has diminished. ESPN is a much bigger platform than DAZN too.
