Kovalev lost by stoppage in the first fight against Eleider Alvaraez. In the rematch, Kovalev won by decision and failed to score a stoppage win in similar brutal fashion as Alvarez did on him.

So in your opinion, does the decision win in the rematch, fully avenge / counteract / compensate for the stoppage loss from the first fight?

Well it is a win, no matter if it's via KO or Decision.

Decision win is like a draw in reality. It's judges opinion who has won, a stoppage is more definitive.

Of course it does if you win well. If you scrape by maybe not. A wins a win

The other Kovalev-Alvarez thread just wasn't bad enough I guess. So you decided to double down on your idiocy. To answer your question... yeah, it ****ing does. Because schooling a guy known for his boxing skills is actually more impressive than KOing him.

No it doesn't. It was a shame Kovalev couldn't KO him. But it was a good win under the circumstances because Kovalev has mental demons. And maybe he has overcome some of them.

A victory is a victory. As long as there is no permament damage involved.

A career-ending beating, imho is a diffeerent story, it cannot be avenged if not by finishing the other's career too. But there are not a lot of gatti-ward, so this is a conercase imho.

    Short answer, yes.

In the case of Kovalev/Alvarez it absolutely does.

In the first fight, Kovalev was comprehensively outboxing Alvarez and was on the way to a decision. He got caught and couldn't recover and was dispatched. In the second fight Kovalev again comprehensively outboxed Alvarez. Only difference is he finished the job. Kovalev in both fights really showed he was superior to Alvarez. The ko loss was a case of Kovalev >>>>>>> Alvarez 9/10, the loss just happened to be lightning in a bottle, which is why Alvarez couldn't duplicate the result in the rematch.

Kovalev didn’t KO Alvarez because Alvarez didn’t take any chances! He was reluctant to attack as he felt the power and knew charging forward against a better conditioned Kovalev would most likely render him knocked out. That and Buddy telling Kovalev to stick to boxing.

    Then how do trilogies/quadrilogies work that go Fighter A/Fighter B/Fighter A or Fighter A/Fighter B/Fighter A/Fighter A?

As according to your theory Fighter B is the better/greater fighter?

No. You have to judge each fight individually, and by the circumstances. Ages, weight, margin of victory, if the judges were right, etc.
