Sadly the era of british boxing ended years ago.

The way it is being presented today is terrible, and there is only one way it is going.

It is an exclusive non fan friendly club.

For a “golden age”, we have been deprived of potential big/classic fights due to greed.

    Brook/Khan
    AJ/Fury
    Haye/Fury
    Price/Fury
    Calzaghe/Froch
    Macklin/Murray
    Macklin/Lee
    Murray/Lee

And many more I can’t remember.

I’ve really tried hard to enjoy MMA but it just looks like a really aggressive game of twister.

It's not a golden era in British boxing the 90's were. But the main difference Is the level of money and exposure we have now, that can make us think we are living currently in the golden era.

I don't consider any of those you named great fighters.Froch was the best.Great era? Not really.
IMO the 80's was our deepest decade for talent and it isn't even close.

British boxing is entering a new golden era led by

    Eubank Jr & Fury
    With
Saunders and Joshua providing the domestic rivalries

Then you have the next level at heavy Joyce whyteleafe Hugh fury on the fringe of world level the heavies can be a british era outside of the small matter of the hardest puncher in history the other side of the pond...

The world pool at middle and super is pretty handy too...

    Good times ahead.

Shout out to young CHRIS for already taking on groves degale and Saunders, well on the way to surpassing his old mans considerable legacy for me.

Agree that the 80s were stronger than the 90s in terms of boxing ability and achievement. I think the latter period gets overrated because of the characters (eg Eubank, Hamed, Benn), and their mainstream appeal. In the Ring's annual P4P ratings, the only British fighter in any year is Hamed in 1998. There's probably a bit of pro-US bias in the ratings, but even that accepted British fighters clearly weren't dominating the sport in any way shape or form.

The money and exposure should lead to the next golden era. Like it or not but the likes of AJ/SKY/Matchroom have made boxing mainstream and I bet local amateur clubs are booming because of it.

Looking at that list in the times of only one champion and 10 contenders per weight class, I don't think any would be a champion other than possibly Froch.

I don't disagree with you at all, the funding from top to bottom in the sport has helped everyone no matter their personal careers, but this gives a different perspective on the "golden era" title.

This current crop of fighters have a lot more to aid their respective careers as opposed to say 10/20/30 years ago, the tool for them to enhance their careers was not so prominent back then.

Once Ward moved up maybe...Groves could’ve been for a short while. Khan for a short period was the best at 140.

    Great list ...

Makes me want to get my VHS collection out!!!

I may start with MCcauley Bassa, what great fights they were, better than Nelson Fenech IMO...

Or Colin Jones getting robbed against Milton MCcrory...

Watching Glenn getting the wind took out of him by Mr Lampkin is always a good watch!!!

    And many many more..

All free to watch back then and fan friendly.
