Just like Fury's schooling of Wilder. There is nothing more pitiful in world boxing than watching these 2 run from Joshua whilst claiming.... anything.
Justice please let the following happen: Wilder loses a close decision to Breazeale - most think Wilder deserved the decision. Fury loses an unwatched snore fest to Parker and calls an immeadiate rematch. After prolonged haggling Parker cancels the rematch. Joshua pays Breazeale a fortune to get the WBC belt, but then loses a mandatory with no rematch clause to Whyte .
This. He gave an interview to IFL (below) just a few days ago, post signing with ESPN, where he was looking forward to the purse bids and proclaiming his disinterest in fighting anyone whose name wasn't Wilder or AJ. He also says that he didn't know anything about the ESPN deal until a few days before. Presumably now MTK have sat him down and told him the facts of life. Fury now has one job, do what Bob Arum tells you to do. This content is protected
Boxing is becoming like a soap opera especially with the current overrated big 3 Heavyweights, this never happened in the Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield era at least they all fought each other more than once. To be honest the top 3 saga is becoming boring it's as boring as Brexit, let's hope Usyk steps up to the plate and does something unique.
Don King's determination to retain control of the HW championship, competing networks, conflicting interests, scandal around Holyfield's alleged drug use, corrupt judging, reneging on agreements for fights etc etc.
I do get ESPN’s reasoning, but it’s such a shame for us as fans. I do genuinely think all of the ‘big 3’ would happily fight each other - but egos (their own included), broadcasters and politics are ruining things.
Yeah it was not much different to what we are seeing now. Bowe trashing the WBC belt to avoid Lewis despite only getting the Holyfield shot by agreeing to fight the winner of Lewis/Ruddock if he won. Tyson coming back and sweeping up a couple of titles and Holyfield benefiting when they chose him over the mandatory Lewis, who had taken Tyson to court, accepted step aside money only for Tyson to vacate and fight Evander. So Lewis again never got his shot. Even when Holyfield/Lewis were clearly the top 2 they delayed the fight and only when Lewis and Holyfield struggled vs Mavrovic and Bean did unification look likely. Holyfield wanted $20 mill, he got it, but then changed his mind and wanted $25 mill which delayed the fight again. Sounds quite similar to the whole Joshua/Wilder situation. The controversial draw with Lewis/Holyfield was much like Fury/Wilder but was an even bigger scandal at the time. Things might seem like they are worse now but that's just people looking at the past through rose tinted glasses. This is pretty standard for boxing.
Did a big guy take your girlfriend/wife away? Heavyweight is one of the best divisions in boxing at the moment. I haven’t liked the division since the 90s but it is happening right now. Boxing also happens to be in the best spot it has been in a long time. There’s a difference between ‘just fine’ and ‘soaring’.
Two positives for both men: -Wilder won't have to pay off the judges again -Fury won't be getting robbed Fair play. I'd have loved to have seen Tyson roll off his sofa & school Wilder again but I'm not overly fussed, the bronze **** house clearly already lost to the much superior fighter (Fury) anyway
