Tbf he was mandatory for Nathan, so he was doing the best he could for his fighter by getting him home advantage.

Why would he want to bring that to the UK? Kovalev doesn't do numbers in the UK and nobody knows who Yarde is in the UK either (Or the US for that matter). This has to be a US or Russia home fight. What do they aim to sell out, York Hall?

 

Good ploy by Warren - fight might be a no go, but he’s putting the idea of Yarde fighting for a title in the minds of the governing bodies - political manoeuvring might get him in line for a shot later on in the year

 

Yarde fights 16 punch bags in a row then fights kovalev, come on man.

 

There are still a few bums in the top 30 on boxrec so I expect it’ll be one of those after reeves.

At best this year I’m expecting them to target sven fornling for the ibo

 

I'm not saying Yarde would win.

But his pure athleticism alone could see him spring a surprise.

He's a likeable lad to, and kovalev isn't what he used to be.

I suspect Warren's plan is to "marinate" this fight for a couple of years until Kovalev is well past it by which time any top 30 fighter should be able to beat him. Kovalev's well on the decline now. So after feasting on some more really really rubbish fighters "The Beast" (ha ha) will step in to claim the scalp of the mighty Kovalev. Right now Yarde won't go near anyone in the top 20.
