Can’t argue that to much. Just have to go by what we know and saw. Either you say like me that he’s proved enough in the chin factory or you can take your stance and say he doesn’t qualify for a discussion because maybe he didn’t face enough competition. I have no problem with your stance. If he had one fight against say Liston as an old man and went the distance (even if he lost) would give us a better idea. Although it’s hard to judge anyone who gets knocked out of prime. So idk either stance is fine w me.

    All good thanks Mac.

Look my position is Rocky's chin was as proven as it could be against the available opposition he faced. And when you factor in his style of fighting and his physical limitations he had to overcome then his mandible must have been very sturdy. If it wasn't you'd pretty much have Dave Zyglewicz MK II instead of Rocky Marciano.

Where it ranks against the others is hard to quantify hence I didn't rate them as (as you so well put forth) they all have shown outstanding examples of durability and chin at differing times. Braddock for example was down twice in his long career before meeting Louis (although I'd argue that Baer fought one of the more inept fights by a heavyweight champion and barely tested Braddocks chin when they met but thats by the by).

Anyway I enjoy the chat and debate as always mate even if I might have got your actual point a bit a bit skew whiff.

No doubt Rocky had a good chin ,I just shy away from putting him on the top of that list.

STOP IT. You're wrong again! Here is what happened:

    • Uzcudun had never been knocked down in 69 professional fights until Louis dropped him with a right in round four. United Press reported that the right hand "landed with such impact it ripped open a gash in the Basque's face large enough to thrust a finger through." Uzcudun rose on shaky legs at the count of eight, but Louis landed three straight haymakers to finish him off. . - Box Rec

    • "For Louis, Uzcudun was a puzzle that had to be solved while exposing himself to the least amount of danger," Lew Freedman wrote in Joe Louis: The Life of a Heavyweight. "Louis was patient, trying to penetrate Uzcudun's awkward style where he bent forward in a crouch with a cross-arms style and his face protected. Louis jabbed and moved, jabbed and moved, all the while studying Uzcudun's unorthodox methods. It took a few rounds for Louis to figure out his best approach, but when Louis saw his opening and slammed Uzcudun with a strong right, he knocked two of his opponent's teeth through his lower lip." - Box Rec

Foolish one. Jimmy Young was not a puncher. He floored Foreman and sent him to his dressing room where Foreman said he had a regions experience.

Lyle was a puncher, and he badly hurt Foreman, early. Foreman's chin was shaky in this fight. If his chin was on Mercer or Vitali's level, he would not go down and be this hurt, and please shut your pie hole. Stamina or pacing does not matter as much in a short fight. Foreman was hurt in round four and round five when it ended.

Well in his defense Foreman did fight in a lot of regions. Having a regions experience can be a profound life changing event.

This. People don’t give Marciano enough credit for his chin, but in my opinion his defensive ability is even more underrated. In a sports illustrated magazine going into the fight Moore did a several page breakdown on how limited Marciano was and how easily he’d land counters on him at will and win the title. However, on fight night Moore found out the hard way that Marciano’s defense was actually very effective.

Young caught Foreman coming in for a flash knockdown there wasn't even a count!Watch the fight! I saw Young drop John L Gardner.
Wilfred Benitez and Micheal Nunn were not punchers yet they scored one punch kos!

Regions experience lol He had heat prostration you Donut! How do you account for a mid 40's Foreman being able to go the distance without sitting down once against the Champion? You really are ignorant!

    Baer
    Foreman
    Vitali
    Mercer
    Holyfield
    Marciano
    Braddock
    Willard

Baer is the highest because he had one of the sloppiest, ugliest fighting styles with poor defense yet other than Joe Louis his chin held up in 79 pro fights. And his ko loss to louis has an asterisk* because not only did he fight with a broken hand, the ko happened after the bell should have rang due to poor time keeping. Either way louis was a devastating puncher with pinpoint accuracy and a good finisher so the fact he actually got to his feet multiple times is a feat in and of itself.

Foreman i rank just behind him for similar reasons. The guy was basically a walking dreadnought, he ate bombs from some of the biggest punchers in the divisions and just shrugged them off then blasted them right back. Like Baer, he only had 1 ko loss but in his case it was due to sheer exhaustion punching himself out against a hall of famer.

Vitali was only down once and never counted out, but i cant rank him above baer and foreman for 2 reasons: lack of evidence against true punchers and the fact he was a much more technical and defensively sound boxer than them. He was so tall he could lean away from shots and or cover up well and honestly didnt take much punishment outside of the Sanders fight and a 38 year old out of shape lewis. This isnt a criticism obviously, but when comparing chins he doesnt have an impressive showcase. What he did display was impressive though and is easily a top 5 chin of all time based on sheer longevity and having no ko losses.

By this logic, Marciano would be higher than you placed him lol
