Definitely no knockdown. I saw the replay of that moment in high def.

I disagree looks a legit flash KD to me. Also Hammer did land more than his fair share of clean punches. I watched the full fight but you can see thethe clean punches Hammer lands which even on this short highlight clip:

The Showtime telecast showed a super slow mo. It was a headbutt and a little push. It was pretty obvious and the announcing team agreed. In real time from the angle given, it looks like a flash knockdown.

I thought Hammer did the best he could with what he has. You can't ask anymore from a fighter. He wasn't reckless but he wasn't in a defensive shell just trying to survive. He did a nice job blending offense and defense and made the fight reasonably competitive. He put some drama in the fight as he was definitely touching Ortiz at times. I would like to see him fight again and hope he gets some nice paydays.

Whyte would moider the Ortiz we saw last night. Fought in predictable 2-4 second bursts every 20-30 seconds.

This. Hammer vs Takam could be a great fight.

I think Takam would take that one, though every time I pick Takam to win a competitive fight he drops the ball.

Hammer could have fun, tough fights with a lot of those upper-tier journeyman type fighters like Duhaupas or Kauffman. Charr, Kabayel or Chisora would be good to watch as well.

Good post. Hammer isn't super talented or physically gifted, but he almost always brings his A game, and obviously has a lot of self-belief. Him and Duhaupas are cut from very much the same cloth.

I'll take your word for it, as I haven't found any better quality vids of the full fight. It wouldn't have affected the final outcome anyway, as Ortiz won enough of the rounds clean to take the decision regardless.

With every Ortiz and Whyte fight I'm beginning to think Whyte has a better chance vs Ortiz should they ever fight. Ortiz didn't look great vs Hammer, he was caught by Hammer's right hand a lot, against a bigger puncher he can't keep taking shots like that.

The problem is Whyte eats every punch in the book , it does not matter which hand comes flying, also, getting outhustled by shop worn journeyman Chisors aint looking too good either.

I think it is a genuine 50/50 fight and I am leaning towards Ortiz. That fight should be made.

True Whyte does get hit a lot, but he showed vs Chisora that he could be a bit more savvy and smart in the ring and showed a nice right hand counter at times, Whyte seems to be improving little by little with each fight, while Ortiz is only getting older.

But I agree it's pretty much a 50/50 fight right now in my opinion.

Ortiz is slowing down that was clear in last nights fun he wasn't as sharp as hes been in some of his passed fights and didn't avoid punches well.

If Hammer is a gate keeper,, Ortiz stumbled through it drunk.

I think Whyte would fancy his chances against Ortiz now, especially with a bit more fitness to last the later rounds, it would make a huge statement if he won too, he'd be absolutely impossible to ignore for a title shot.
