I think Riakporhe is a genuinely massive puncher to be fair. The size difference when both were in the ring surprised me to be fair. Didn't like how it was playing out from the start. McCarthy had to really work and take risks to get inside Riakporhe's jab. Felt like a matter of time till he'd get caught. Big shame. Hopefully he can comeback and get himself in the mix again. He was boxing ok to be fair. Wouldn't say he was out of his depth by any means.

How anybody could call themselves a boxing fan and not see he needs to quit boxing is a mystery Will all those who doubted my assessment of Tommy Mac come out with yere hands up? :)

McCarthy got into the last 8 in the world championships as an amateur, also got a bronze in the juniors He has pedigree, but yea maybe he should quit if this is his level.

Or can he fight at light heavy, hes not actually a massive cruiserweight. McCarthy comfortably makes cruiserweight. And his body isnt what you call ripped. Discipline, diet and commitment is what's needed here.

They're building conlan v nikitin probably for later this year. I dunno. I have a bad feeling that nikitin is just all wrong for Conlan.

I think Niktin is juts too rough and tough for Mick in a pro ring,Micks lack of power could be his undoing on this one

I'm inclined to agree. People remember conlan getting robbed in Rio, and he was robbed. But there's a bit more to it than that. Firstly nikitins previous opponent before Mick softened him up big time for Mick. Secondly despite getting hammered by his previous opponent ....and for two rounds by Mick, Nikitin nicked a share of the last round against conlan on my scorecard.
Unless nikitin has plateaued or regressed and Mick has advanced massively, both of which are debatable, I think Nikitin might be just too tough for mick Conlan, particularly in the later rounds. Conlan is good but he's not great. I expect the Russian to overcome an early deficit on the cards and batter conlan in the later rounds, possibly forcing a late stoppage.

There's an expectation that this fight takes place in a local festival in Conlans area of Belfast

Why does he need to quit boxing? He's only 28 and is finally with a management team who are looking after him. Got beat fair and square on Saturday after getting caught by a big puncher who was towering over him. Thought Tommy was definitely up on the cards at the time. No big deal. Loads of good fights there for him at British level. A win or two and he can get back in the mix.

Did you watch Nikitin's last fight? I thought he looked poor. Trudging forward, getting hit loads and doesn't look to have much power himself. Clearly lost one of the rounds I thought too in a six rounder against a total journeyman.

I haven't been mad impressed by Conlan so far but think people are going a bit over the top with the skepticism. Has he even fairly lost a round yet? A few rounds were competitive in the Cunningham fight but it was all very comfortable. The same Cunningham who very nearly stopped Jordan Gill a few fights ago who is now being lauded as the next big thing by Sky.

I think Nikitin would make Conlan look very good tbh. Conlan needs guys to come towards him. Nikitin is ideal really.

Yeah I saw nikitin and you are right ...he looked very poor. That's why I put in the caution about maybe he's plateaued or even regressed since rio. If conlan is going to fight him now might be the time to do it. Conlan is a more experienced pro by far. Strike now befire Nikitin improves.....

I don't think pro boxing is a great idea if you're not prepared for it. Tommy is just lacking in too many areas for me. He isn't even domestic UK level. Purses at Tommy level are pathetic. He could probably do better and be safer and healthy in another line of work....

I think McCarthy should give it one more push, then quit if he fails at this level again.

That's ok with me too. One more go...... But if he can't win at domestic level then he should look for another job though.....
