Okay, okay, i know people realise i'm not Connor Benns biggest fan... But it's a genuine question. Connor was only put on 2 shows last year, but we've always been told he would be active due to him being a novice and needing to learn and be active. I know he's had a few injuries but he's now been pro 3 years and only had 13 fights! Now it looks like they are lining him up to be fed to Josh Kelly, who we all know will absolutely annihilate him. So where has it all gone wrong?
He had more AM fights than both Yarde and Allen, which I think is quite interesting. He's on the Allen card, he's been out for a little while so not sure he'll be in a sideways step never mind a step up
I believe he’s had a hand/wrist injury which doesn’t bode well. I don’t like him either, he’s surrounded with yes men too.
Let's make a son of vs son of fight beween Conor Benn and Eubank jr at a catch weight. Triggers the casuals, and gets rid of Conor once and for all.
Doesn't he struggle to shift tickets, keep seeing adverts on Facebook with people advertising tickets for him
He does not have what it takes to fight at a high enough level, to make decent money for a promoter. He can enjoy the sport but I don’t see either him or a promoter making much money out of his fights. There is also only so long that he can fight prospect type opponents for.
I disagree he is a name and looks the part. Also has huge social media presence (for his level). I think he's a good undercard fighter for any promoter. The fact he is below British level isn't really relevant when your job is to sell seats and TV rights. For the record I don't agree with him being put on big cards as he is blocking other more talented fighters from getting exposure but boxing is a business and needs to generate money and simply on his name alone he gets people talking. He is only 22 still and with all these Eubank and Benn siblings emerging on the scene any promoter would jump at the chance to put a Eubank v Benn next gen fight on.
He has the name and looks the part as the above post mentions - so he's going to get opportunities, any promoter would be stupid otherwise. It's been mentioned that he's "only had 13 fights" but given the fact he's only 22 with a limited amount of amateur bouts, he'll be learning his trade behind closed doors in the gym - with regular good sparring at his disposal too. That said, it's not a good sign the amount of injury set backs he's already had. The broken jaw a little while back and now the issue with his hands (which doesn't look good!) that's kept him out more recently.
He's on the April 20th card so thats hardly giving up on him. His inactivity was due to injuries, no idea if the hands are now perfect or if more problems will come. He's looked poor in many fights, but he could improve. Can't see any point in him fighting Kelly, Kelly is so far ahead of him career wise already
No idea whether it’s intentional, but it’s interesting how several of the ‘Nxt Gen’ guys are fairly unpopular personalities already. Particularly Benn, Okolie and Fowler seem to rub people up the wrong way. They’re the sort of guys that people would tune in to see them lose. Could be nothing though. Buatsi is the opposite and seems quite a good guy.
