Stumbled upon an old post of mine and I got dumbfounded by the idea that Tua had technical deficiencies that were just as glaring as Baer's all over again. Some of the same zealots who wax eloquently about Baer, Willard, Marciano, Carnera, and even Galento's underappreciated technical skills routinely dismiss guys like Tua and Ibeabuchi as unskilled, unimpressive nobodies (and some even question their power and punching abilities!).
I've tried hard to get into the mindset of old school fans who hold these beliefs, thinking that perhaps they're seeing something I'm not seeing. Well, I've come to the conclusion that they are indeed seeing something I'm not seeing, and it exists in their heads.
Maybe true but you can only beat what's put in front of you. Tua would likely have the edge but he (and his era) had the benefit of modern training and diet etc and "supplementation" which he wouldn't have had in the 30s. Put 20lb of lean on Baer and put him through the Kronk gym and he'd give Tua hell.
Give Baer super-powered rocket pants and he'd solve world peace. That line of debate is a bit of a non-starter, really.
It's a fact. I think the same about other old timers who you no doubt think Tua beats. peak Tua weighed 240lb, high protein fish diet no doubt.
What's a fact? That Tua was on PEDs during his career, or that modern day Max would be 20lbs heavier and a H2H beast? The first point is possible, the second wildly speculative. Neither are facts.
You have established this how? Any assumption in this game, must be justified by evidence, or it can be dismissed without evidence! Hell, even if you are right, it still wouldn't necessarily close the quality gap!
I'm referring to the version of Max who killed with his punching power. Can that version of Baer KO Tua?
