Repeatedly Jabbing Your Opponent In The Forearms. Is That A Scoring Shot?

    So by your definition scoring for the amateurs is the same as scoring for the pros.

    If you hurt a guy you win the round barring some extraordinary rally by the opponent.

    In a relatively slow round where neither guy is particularly dominant, yes. Clearly there are extenuating circumstances that may swing a round largely in the favor of the other fighter, like knocking down your opponent or badly hurting them. That tends to be enough override scoring blows if they're fairly even to begin with.

    I had the first rd for Spence and also had the 2nd round for Mikey. I thought Mikey clearly won the 2nd round. That was the only round I gave him though.

    I had the first even, second to Mikey, a middle round where Mikey landed some very telling blows, and he was blocking most Errol's work I gave to him as well.

    Isn't that kinda what Jono Carroll did though.?

    I'm just asking. I didn't watch the fight BTW, just read the write-ups, and they pretty much all suggested that he hit Farmer on the arms for 12 rounds.

    Obviously not. He did good at weakening a lot of punches or completely blocking them. But he spent all night doing that and lost.

    No, that's actually what Farmer did for the vast majority of the early rounds.

    Punches to the forearms count more than no punches which is what Mikey did.

    Mikey did weaken a number of the punches but they still got through. A big problem for Mikey is his thick luscious hair. The hair really accentuates any punch that gets through. That must have been what got the judges, ringside boxing experts and fans at home to score for Spence.

    I really did not see many punches at all landed on Mikey's elbows... Nevertheless, I did here Robert saying/asking "no mas" to Mikey in the corner quite a few times..

    Kudos to Mikey for surviving the 12 brutal soul destroying rounds, that took either guts or sheer stupidity.

    To answer your question. No its not a scoring shot. But it doesnt have to be in order to be taken into account when judging an otherwise fairly even round. Imo, professional boxing isnt just about and goes beyond simply tallying up scoring shots when its that close.

    If its a round where the actual scoring punches are near equal or fairly non existent, I will give the round to the fighter that established himself the way Spence did.

    The reason is because a jab doesnt have to land to do a job. In the first round, in my opinion, the jab was doing exactly what Spence wanted it to. It was establishing the distance, establishing the pace, disrupting Mikeys tempo at times, ect.

    Ring generalship and dictation matter when its a fairly even round. And for me that clearly went to Spence.

    Just imo though.
