Does anyone see him dominating the division making some noise. His skills are good. I feel as if Callum Smith is the man to beat in the division however Caleb Plant just seems different.... Like if he just wants it that much more. As if hes hungrier than Callum smith. I'm not saying plant beats smith . I'm .Just saying he seems so hungry and he's just 26
No way is Caleb Plant better than Callum Smith, and he'd have very little chance of beating him. Callum Smith, David Benavidez and Vladimir Shishkin are the clear 3 best fighters at 168 imo.
Smith makes less mistakes than Caleb made in his last bout, he got hit far too much in that bout to fight a puncher like Smith.
No he doesn't have the physical tools to be a dominant fighter. Very good fighter mind you. Smith is looking untouchable atm. Think Plant vs Benavidez vs Eubank would be a good set of fights
If Caleb can finish as strong as he starts nobody can beat him at 168. I think he needs 3 fights at champ and his issues with fading should be gone. Mike Lee counts as half a fight.
No I respect Plant and feel for him as he has had to deal with some horrific and awful incidents away from boxing but he's far from ever being the man at 168. I give him props for pullimg one off over Uzcat, and he looked great and sharp in the early rounds and was really seeming to put on a clinic. But I feel that Uzcat lost the fight more than Plant won it, if that makes any sense. Uzcat is an absolute enigma, and if he could maintain focus, fix his issue with being a slow starter, and improve his ring generalship and fight IQ I think he is by far and away the man at 168...….. Besides David Benavidez. Nobody in the division is even in the same sport as Benavidez in regards to natural talent, athletic ability, and God given gifts. Oh ya, and he's 6'2 1/2 to 6'3...……. And has excellent reach, incredibly fast hands, is an excellent and creative combination puncher and puts his shots together extremely well, is actually and surprisingly a very good, skilled, and talented fighter in the pocket..... Callum Smith and Caleb Plant are two very good and skilled fighters, Callum Smith is more problematic an opponent to most fighters because of his physical profile and dimensions, size, height, reach, solid fundamentals, and solid skills, while Plant is more problematic to opponents due to his skills, speed, slick defensive skills and a very good counter puncher, but his gas tank looked really poor against Uzcat, and the way he clowned him early and not only didn't stop him but began getting walked down and hurt leaves a lot of questions. Uzcat, and the enigma he is, horse for horse is IMO the second best guy in the division and if Benavidez weren't around and if he could improve his weak and enigmatic areas, he'd be an absolute terror and possibly long reigning chmap. Benazidez, for all his gifts -- he's an athletic, physically, and talentedly package that I haven't seen in years, if ever. I mean he is truly special in so many areas, but intangibly he is lacking in a lot of areas which is totally common for any fighter as gifted as he is, except few are as gifted as him if any. He really is freakish. If he could improve his intangibles even slightly -- he unquestionably(IMO) rules 168 for a LONG time. If he can significantly improve upon his intangible weak spots, he's a possible to even probable ATG in the making. Caleb Plant would be a good contender in any era, he really is a talented individual, but his weaknesses are pretty severe and are usually necessities to be a notable champ. Callum Smith IMO will definitely have the better career between he and Plant, and even if Uzcat can un**** himself in the areas he went totally FUBAR, Callum Smith would still present a serious threat to him, and actually will end up being the better fighter of the two. Uzcat has been dropped at least 4 times I have seen, 2x vs. Korobov and 2x vs. Plant(who are ironically very similar in style, strengths, and weaknesses and have very similar physical dimensions, though Korobov in his prime was a much superior version of Plant) but he has never seemed badly hurt, more off balance and due to his height and balance issues, but if Callum Smith starts finding a certified landing zone for his shots I think Uzcat's going to sleep early. All that speculation aside, this is David Benavidez decision if he really wants it for the foreeable future, unless Bivol drops down to 168. Then things would get really interesting and 168 would be one of the hottest(and top heavy) divisions in boxing. Bivol and Benavidez are both incredible talents and highly skilled but what makes it more interesting is they have two totally different styles. That could turn out to be easily the greatest rivalry in boxing for the current generation.
