How many devastating losses do we have to see before these boxers realize there are weight classes for a reason? Khan vs Canelo, Brook vs GGG, Loma vs Rigondeaux and now Mikey vs Spence. These kind of fights should stop being sanctioned.
Yeah but is only for special fighters! Thats why goats can be on this page, thats why a few ones are great!
Sometimes it works, usually it doesn't. Huge weightcutters can often jump weightclasses, because their frame allows them to. I think in the old days it was easier too, with less drugtesting, so you could get a lot of extra help to bulk up.
Most of the time the little guy learns the hard way. Garcia was running his mouth and got humbled. A good old fashioned playground beat down.
Because people dare to be great. For example, I'm sure that if it was anybody other than Loma, then Rigo would have pulled off a points win. It's just that Loma is too good and would have still won if he was two weights lower. The weight didn't matter in that fight, it was solely a game of brains. I agree with the other 3 though, those shouldn't have happened.
Brook and Khan I agree had no business fighting at 160 or “155”. However, Rigo gassed out because he was inactive and 37 years old and Spence was just a better fighter than Mikey. Spence didn’t run over Mikey like GGG did Brooks cause he couldn’t, but he completely neutralized Mikey’s skill set with his own. Mikey’s inability to adjust after the first round was his problem not his size.
Hasnt this always been the case in boxing. Very few fighters can rise up many weight classes and fight the top young fighters.
A lame excuse for Rigo, and of course size was a factor for Mikey vs Spence I guarantee u no 135 boxer would do that to Mikey.
Nah I don’t buy for a second that Loma is that much better than Rigo, just because a guy isn’t leaning on a guy and trying to bulldoze him doesn’t mean size isn’t a factor. It’s not just a coincidence that he gets dominated like that going up 2 weight classes.
Canelo would have ktfo Khan at any weight class. Brooks is a big guy, easily a 154'er, GGG would have done the same to him there. Loma would always box Rigo's head off, styles makes fights, and I really rate Rigo. You can see clearly, Rigo bends over, fighters usually get tangled or dont know how to deal with that. Loma meanwhile just positions himself, adjust the angle of his punches and pity pats Rigo. Loma is a thinker and overwhelms thinkers in there, gotta be a Salido to beat him. It's the same with Floyd, you gotta mail him like Castillo and Maidana, not play a chess match or you stand 0 chance.
I don’t understand why people can’t acknowledge that size and Spence’s physical advantages played a huge part in this fight. In my humble opinion those that say size played no part are wrong, as are those that say size is the only factor. How’s this, is it not just easier to say that Spence had the skills to utilise his physical advantages? Both skill and size played their part in unison.
The thing people underestimated in the fights mentioned were not only were fighters going up to fight bigger guys, they were also fighting technically superior guys. They were all cash outs.
I said before the fight that Spence was a better fighter. Garcia is so basic, and beaten C level fighters with those basic skills. As I been saying all along, his best win is Broner. Sure Spence size played a part, but size is just 1 factor. Floyd Canelo, Pac Margarito, Clottey - both huge guys championship material fighting a man SMALLER than Garcia. Yes, smaller. Pac weighs less on fight night and weigh-ins than Garcia does, whilst on 8000 calorie a day diet.
