Watching Fowler’s IFL interview after the fight this has done nothing to his levels of delusion. He seems to be implying Fitzgerald juiced for this fight and genuinely can’t understand how anybody could possibly take the punches in round 9. He also feels hard done by being that he lost due to a ‘flash knockdown’ in the last round, Fowler was losing the fight regardless and the knockdown was a heavy one as a result of a barrage of punches, he was seriously buzzed. Scorecards were too close favouring the hometown fighter

Just reading Fowler's mentions on twitter since last night. Does he realise how disliked he is? There's even plenty of fans from Liverpool that enjoyed him getting beat.

This is a exact carbon copy of how Degale v Groves went down.

90% of the arena wanted him to lose.

He's a Scouse idiot, Bellew MKII.

Except even more delusional, if that is possible.

Me an my mates were literally jumping up and down when fitz put fowler on his arse! You could see after the fight fowler knew he just got shown up, nearly as satisfying as the maidena broner beat down.

Was terrified when they were reading out the cards, fast Eddie slipping brown envelopes for a fowler SD or draw

Bellew had fans, this lad hasn’t. Even the lads from round his way wanted him to lose. The 10% (myself included) that wanted him to win was just because he was a local lad (whilst accepting he is a dickhead though).

I think he underestimated him due to Fitzy getting his ass kicked in sparring a few times & also maybe overestimated his own power, when he said he'd dropped light heavyweights.

Whilst many of you are (understandably) revelling in his defeat, surely this is what British boxing desperately needed? Up and coming prospects that put bums on seats to either want him to win or want him to lose...either way, they filled that arena last night. As much as you might dislike him, Fowler is still a quality boxer. Fitzgerald is just loads better than many of us gave him credit for.

As mentioned by a poster above, this is Degale v Groves all over again. I think both of these have a great future.

Fowler badly needed this defeat. His ego cost him that fight. He was bossing it in first few rounds and his ego caused him to fall into the traps and counters from Fitzgerald. Ironic that it was Fitzy who kept his head and stuck to his boxing after all the talk.

Really enjoyed this fight, clean and exciting boxing from both fighters. Just a perfect execution of a gameplan from Fitzgerald. What impressed me was how calm Fitzgerald was throughout the fight, was never overwhelmed and took Fowlers onslaught in round 9 really well.

That was a great fight, props to both fighters. What a 9th round fair play to the mad man for getting through that and fair play to Fowler for taking the defeat well on the night despite the bad blood. Rematch please.

What a chin Fitzgerald demonstrated in the 9th. The referee done well too because I’ve seen onslaughts like that stop a fight!

Those Cards where tooo close for the "house" fighter. Fowler got schooled. Fitzy was more composed, better distance control a more educated Jab and shot selection.

I really like Fitzy, he i think it better technically so he i think best UK in this weight class.

Schooled?? Good god. The knockdown won him the fight otherwise, it was neck and neck going into the final round.

In retrospect, I wished it was a 12 round fight.

I was expecting it at any second, was good reffing as you said and as importantly Fitz showed just enough action back to keep it in the bag. As you know, loads of fights have been stopped for less than that. Fowler deserves props for rallying that when he looked frankly knackered beforehand.
