This content is protected Two bad asses in their primes, with a pair of extremely different styles that meshed well. Underrated victory for Desert Storm, and probably the last truly world class performance from Rated-R. (even if on paper the SD against young unbeaten Danny García two years later probably looks "better" than a UD loss here; IMO there's no comparison, and Bradley >> García)
Didn't Tim's eyes kind of roll back in his head when he was knocked down? Might be the ten years playing with me but I remember that having all the trademarks of a "He's in lah lah land" kind of knockdown, even though Bradley's recovery as per usual was phenomenal.
Tim has a really solid resume filled with underappreciated wins like this. Really a diverse set of names on the ledger. He always reminded me of a mini-Holyfield (cardio monster, tons of heart and willingness to leave boxing behind and trade despite lack of top shelf power, eagerness to bully on the inside, etc), and he took after Commander 'Vander in fighting whatever style was out there, too.
Sometimes I wonder if Holt was in a different era. One things for sure they paid him peanuts to go to hell & back. Holt was underappreciated pisses me off
I don't remember Holt being prime. Also, Holt was lauded for his power, but had a lot of decision wins against bums.
This was about the very end of Holt's prime, while Bradley was on the opposite side of the curve, in his "rising action" so to speak, but this version of Holt wasn't shot. The fact that a Holt two years older gave Danny hell (even if maybe it shouldn't have been a SD) is a much worse look for Danny than is this for Timbo.
Oh yeah. That was a good win for Tim. Holt wasn't shot. Danny is at the very lowest tier of top fighters imo.
Shot for shot, though? I love Matthysse, and think he was a devastating puncher with power in both hands, and he was probably an overall more dangerous offensive fighter than Holt (and was blessed with a much better chin), but I'm not sure any single blow in his arsenal was quite the superior to Holt's left hook..
Ask Lamont Peterson who hit harder? He ate Holts shots (including left hook) and walked through em, Matthysse landed a huge left hook and took him to another dimension. Shame that was Matthysse’s last great performance, I remember seeing it live and thinking he’d destroy Danny Garcia then move to 147 and make huge noise there.
