Does boxing evolve as it continues making better and better fighters?

I think Mark has trouble articulating certain points, therfore points to already logical established explanations to present a point.

I do agree though, that personal experience / analysis is the best teacher.

 

I dont think HEMA is necessarily a good comparison.

The techniques of weapon martial arts became obsolete and 'died' in a sense, therfore of course you would have to study old masters experiences. Not disagreeing with some of your points, but I don't think it's a valid comparison.

On a related note, I was looking up the Spanish circle in Spanish swordfighting a while back, and was thinking of how it related to boxing and combat sports in general. Maybe you could provide some insight?

 

It isn't an entirely valid comparison, but I am sure that some boxing techniques got lost.

Bare knuckle obviously.

Grappling with smaller gloves, perhaps being reinvented in MMA?

 

Related. I'm pretty sure there is an MMA fighter who studied Jack Johnson for his game.
Some fighters even copy moves from movies, TV etc.
It's amazing how creative some of these fighters are.

 

That is a couple of hundred years after my time, but I have friends who are more into that period, and can get back to you.

The main thing that I have noticed about medieval tactics, is that they much more resemble modern boxing, than that of say the 30s or earlier.

The first lesson that you teach somebody with a medieval long sword, is keep your shoulders tight.

My experience on Quora has been that any contentious discussion gets shut down irrespective of political slant, and in any case very few well thought out views can be neatly categorized as liberal or conservative. (You need a lot more than two categories.)

 

Wikipedia is fine, as long as the page is well cited with decent sources. The page quality varies a lot, and the poorly sourced ones tend to contain a lot of rubbish.

Nature found Wikipedia to be about as accurate as Encyclopedia Britannica, but I think that made Wiki look better than it is, since it was just looking at science pages, which tend to be better. EB probably isn't that great either.
