he got absolutely robbed in three straight fights for the IBF title in 95-96. didn't even lose ten rounds total to Foreman, Moorer, and Botha in these fights. pure political bs. huge example of boxing being no better than pro wrestling for decades now.
Yeah I felt horrible for Schulz, he definitely beat Foreman and the Botha fight was close and he should of been awarded the belt after Botha failed the drug test. People talk about German boxing being corrupt but damn their best heavyweight in God knows how long got screwed bad!
Unfairly paid for the sins of his grandfather Hans. Who always treated his prisoners kindly and humane.
watch the video vs Moorer. the first thing the announcers ask is couldn't they find unbiased judges. before the fight started.
It's all part of the "forgotten" history in boxing. Worst thing is that guys like Schultz were viewed afterwards as second or third tier, while the guys they clearly beat were often seen as legit world level. Born in the "wrong" country and then fighting in the US is almost a certain way to get robbed if you don't have the power to end it before the final bell. Another instance, when Campillo got smacked around by Kovalev many saw him as merely a gatekeeper or even a bum, while he actually should have been the unified WBA/IBF 175 champion at the time. Suffering trough 3 robberies (1 draw) before that.
No, the UK, Canada, Germany, Mexico and Thailand are almost equally as bad. It's just that so many of the meaningful fights take place in the US that it happens that more often over there. Friday Night Fights had a major robbery about every other week or even every week at one point, you could predict it before the fight as the home/featured fighter fought someone tough.
I think the Moorer fight Schulz lost legitimately. Botha was on PEDs and Foreman won a terrible terrible robbery. So all in all Schulz got shafted quite badly. Overall though, he made millions with these three losses, he got lots of endorsement deals, does commentating for German TV stations and he has stated many times that the Foreman loss was the best thing that ever happened in his life. Very humble, down to earth guy.
We'll agree to disagree on the Moorer fight. I am sure all four were on peds, since every pro athlete in the past forty years has been. my long term point was he should have been a long term champ. He without a doubt beat those three guys.
I've not seen this fight or at least it's been so long I can't recall it, not sure if I want to see Schulz get shafted again.
The Botha fight was changed to an "NC" when Botha tested positive for steroids, but I agree Schulz deserved the decision anyway. That was a robbery. Robbed in his own backyard, after being robbed in America against Foreman. I don't think Schulz protested the decision in the Moorer fight but perhaps he was already expecting to be robbed again when he signed the contract.
btw, not one person has yet came up with a name of someone who has gotten the same treatment. the actual point of the thread.
