Crolla was hardly sent to the slaughter. He was a mandatory challenger on the champions show. Yes there was absolute levels between them but what do you want Crolla to do? Turn down a world title shot and career high pay day? Isn’t that what everyone is in the game for? To win titles and earn money?

 

It's a tough one. You have to think about your future especially with crolla and the stage of his career. He must of been paid close to seven figures the amount of times I've heard Hearn mention how well he is being paid to face Lomochenko.

You can't really blame him, cashing out at the end of his career.

 

To be fair mate 'win titles' nowadays is like football - most don't care about titles and only care about earning obscene amounts of money even when some are multi millionaires already.

Toe Haye and Toni Bellew good examples.

 

Both won world titles and ultimately it didn’t bring the riches that a pantomime PPV would bring. Same with Kel Brook, world champion but struggled to get paid. Liam Smith and Fielding basically sold their belts to Canelo.

Crolla probably had his last chance to become a world champion (as thin as it was) and to earn a 7 figure pay day. Would you prefer that or a pantomime PPV for no belts?

 

I really question the fandom of people who question the Crolla fight.

Boxing is about trying to be the best. Everyone knew that Crolla had little chance against Loma. Should we say that everyone who is unlikely to beat Loma therefore shouldn't try? Crolla got himself into a position where Loma had to fight him or drop the title. After doing that should Crolla then say "I don't think I can beat therefore I shouldn't try"

Very few fights in boxing are 50/50. Should all of those fights also be scrapped? How much chance should we deem a fighter should have before taking on what is deemed a superior foe? 40%, 30%? Should we cancel all fights where we don't feel that the opponent has less than a 25% chance?

Crolla was Loma's mandatory therefore he had won the right to fight Loma and if Loma did not take the fight, he would have lost a belt. Crolla took the fight because he thought he had a chance and was offered a large amount of money. Should he sacrifice his family's financial future because some fans think that he doesn't stand a chance.

Boxing is littered with stories of the underdog upsetting the odds. That is one of boxing's great attractions.

All this whining about British boxers being sacrificial lambs is simply stupid. At the end of the day the fighter can always turn down the fight if they don't want it.

 

This is what Hearn wants. He wants the domestic fighters left to front the Sky shows to be of the lowest possible quality so that Sky are forced into terminating his deal so he can bring his link up with DAZN to the UK.

If you were a multi millionaire why wouldn't you care about an opportunity to earn another million?

Crolla is undoubtedly a rich guy compared your average bloke, but I doubt he's got the sort of money which means he and his family can live in luxury for generations. It's an odd thing to say but is a million even that much? It's the price of a nice enough house.

I certainly doubt Crolla is at the point whereby he can spend with abandon and never run out of cash. Add to the fact that it's a shot at a legendary fighter. I agree with those who suggest that anyone complaining about these sort of fights just do some from the point of view of an agenda.

 

Pop the question to Tony Dosh - the Wilder fight not about money he said yet it does not happen because of ......... err money.

It's not really questioning why Crolla has taken the fight but it's a mixture of a wasted camp for Loma and dodgy brown envelopes getting mandatory positions for vastly overmatched fighters.

Loma is well into his prime now and will have a short shelf life fighting as he does currently. I have zero interest in watching him in huge mismatches.

If he hadn’t wrecked his shoulder vs Linares I would agree with you. I think most fighters like a tune up fight after such a big injury. Looked what happened to Groves when he had to jump straight in with Callum Smith. Crolla was a former world champion, seen better days, fairly one dimensional and the perfect opponent to blow off the cobwebs and look great against.

 

I don't see the problem with Crolla taking a fight against someone who could go on to be one of the greatest of all time, especially when there was a belt on the line and decent enough money too. What were his other options?
