damn, crying like a soccer player. are you laying on the ground feigning injury too? sadly the dives are the most exciting part of that snoozefest "sport".

 

You dont even know anything about the sport.

 

Despite the limited numbers, being the best at a discipline provides someone with some cachet. Plus, women's boxing has been around for 20 years or so, so there's a bit of history associated with it, even if the sport itself doesn't interest you, personally.

Shields's personality doesn't do anything for me, either...But, she did score a high profile win in her most significant fight to date. If that's the way she wants to celebrate, then so be it.

Shields did exactly what she said she would do, and that's beat Hammer's butt. Hammer had no excuses and don't need any made in her behalf. Shields is talking smack and has a right to do so. After all, she is the undisputed woman's middleweight champion of the world.

 

Yeah...Rijker who had only 17 fights total, feasted on novices, and had one world title fight. Great choice, Kinda like Rating Lars Sullivan the GOAT of pro wrestling.

Ann Wolfe vs Shields would have been an interesting boxer-puncher match up though.

That's the problem with women's boxing the talent pool is so shallow you just get women like Hammer or Braekhus dominating for years because there's literally not another half decent fighter in their divisions. You have female boxers with 6 or 7 fights fighting for world titles because the talent pool is so thin.

Tennis doesn't have the depth problem that boxing does, if women's boxing had the talent pool tennis did then it would be a far more enjoyable sport to watch as you'd have far more competitive fights and more fights like Shields/Hammer which gets peoples attention.

But there are other women sports that are good to watch. As an athletics fan I really enjoy watching female athletes as much as the men. From Katrina like Thompson Johnson, Laura Muir, even at the Jr level I've been watching rising young US talents like Katelyn Tuohy break record after record at high school level, a while back as a 16 year old she set the 4th fastest 3K time in the world that year including senior Olympic level runners.

You can't just denigrate all female sports to the trash heap just because some female sports like boxing and soccer currently lack the same level of competition like Tennis and athletics.

 

Come on your exaggerating with the Broner comparison. She has an obnoxious personality when promoting fights but not THAT obnoxious.

My main issue with her trash talking is she isn't particularly good at it. Screaming I'm going to whoop dat ass over and over gets tedious after the umpteenth time. Good trash talkers can throw some humour into their trash talk, they can be obnoxious but make you smile when they do it.

 

Absolutely agree, any Olympic sport is great to watch normally, but in terms of major sports, Tennis is probably the only one.
