I'll tell you what I told PhillyPhan, the names on Leonard's resume do not impress me. Maybe if he had at least gone undefeated (like McFarland) he could be in the top 10, but he wasn't

The best name on his resume is Dundee or Bartfield, who arent impressive. He lost to McLarin (albeit past prime). McLarin was a great chance to prove his greatness as I rank McLarin as one of the greatest, but he failed to beat him too.

I'm not in this dialogue, however this is a very common statement from people today looking back, while we are not fully 'aware' of all these other fighters.

Benny Leonard was thought of as a Great while still fighting and extremely highly spoke of in the immediate years that past. the Men that were rating him, writing about him and comparing him Knew of and Saw MANY of those fighters we know 'nothing or little about', so his ability was merited against some very fine Noted & Worthy opposition.

there was a time when Fight Fans were SPOILED with Contenders REGULARILY Meeting each other too, and not just championship matches... Loads & Loads of Great Fighters have Graced the Annals of Boxing History.

I don't know much, or sometimes nothing at all about loads of past greats' contenders and/or noted opponents, but I don't for one minute dismiss any of them... some of them were equally capable and possible champions too.

the Ring at one time was Rating 2000 fighters from the Best Boxing nations in 8 Divisions, it's quite easy to believe that 50 men Per Division from the leading fight countries were capable Top Noted men

that's no diff than the 5 different Sanctioning Bodies having their own Top !0, so right there, there is a 'potential 55 fighters per division Champs and contenders, and unlike today at least in the Past a good chunk of them actually fought each other.
