Moore when you analyze his record is an ATG hw. Wether he would have success today is a fine argument but at the time and his record says he is. Walcott’s as well. I’d take Walcott and Moore to beat everyone Tua did anyway.

    Never got that too.
Is Witherspoon ATG material? According to most, Bowe isn´t, but beat Holy 2 - 1.
If Charles is ATG at HW, what about Spinks?

Moorer, Ruiz, Rahman and I don't know the other one???

Christ even if Marciano only beat the names of some ATG's they're still better than that.

I dont think he is an ATG at heavy, but then we all have different criteria.

While Moore is not an ATG at HW I believe many/most have Walcott in their top 20 HW’s I seldom see him outside of a top 20-25 range. I would say Walcott is but I guess it depends on your criteria of what an ATG is.

He had a lot of wins against prime and ranked contenders for the time. beating Nino x2 Baker Satterfield and a list of others. Would have loved to see him go against Walcott when they were younger.

They are better NAMES because their NAMES got repeated thru the liturgy of Marciano over the decades. But in the cold light of reason, they were really only NAMES... and not ATG FIGHTERS.

Joe Louis, Ezzard Charles an Archie Moore are as ATG as it gets.

Not enough to make him an ATG imo

    Fair call.

But to be fair it's not as if Marciano waited until they were past prime either (like a FMJ has been accused of doing). He fought who was there when they were there, when he was supposed to. It wasn't his (or anyones fault) that they'd seen better days by the time Rocky met them. It wasn't selective matchmaking is what I'm saying. Valdes aside Marciano basically fought everyone he could have in his time frame. He couldn't pluck better fighters out of thin air because they simply weren't available.

Surely that's not his fault is it?

    I
Interesting book boxing by the numbers has Moore statistically speaking not h2h in the 16 spot all time. That is wins at HW against prime competition. Believe he was undefeated at HW until he met Rocky. Think I’ve heard Moore say he enjoyed fighting the HW more because they were so slow.

Of course its not his fault, same as the fact he never beat a modern sized heavyweight of any class isn't his fault , but they are facts that must be added when assessing him.I think it is fair to state that.
