6 weeks is plenty of time.

6 weeks, 5 million dollars +. and he wont take the fight! After all the garbage he's been talking.

I agree, Ortiz should have taken the fight. It's probably his last chance at a world title.

Six weeks is enough time, a top heavyweight contender should be in reasonably good shape all the time anyway.

Like to Ortiz turning down the fight? Not doubting it, just didn't see the story...

6 weeks ain't enough for the top guy in the division.

A normal training camp is 10 to 12 weeks, and you have to be in relatively good shape beforehand and not a fat slob (I don't know Ortiz's current condition but it's a factor).

6 weeks for the opportunity of a lifetime is all you need. He could take this fight, lose and retire after with plenty of money for him and his family. And if you make the fight interesting and still lose, you can claim you didn't have enough time to train and ask for a rematch with a full training camp.

Tell me there's an ending please,
To the endless sucking of Ortiz,
Or tell me when it's going to end,
Before it drives me round the bend,

Don't get me wrong the guy can box,
Within the ring he's a wily fox,
That southpaw stance might confuse some,
So lets agree he is no bum,

    But Boogeyman don't be absurd,
The daftest thing I've ever heard,
For as said in countless threads,
He's not looked great since off the PEDS,

And though he fights with dedication,
This dude takes blood pressure medication,
It's Sulaiman he should be thanking,
For somehow messing with his ranking,

So Whyte who tops the WBC list,
Has had his mando hopes dismissed,
And told he has to fight a bout,
With the guy that Wilder just knocked out,

It's We Be Crooks again it seems,
That's screwed with Dillian's title dreams,
And when he tells them 'get to ****'
He stands accused of being a duck,

When he's the guy that fights the best,
Whilst Ortiz beats on all the rest,
And still you kneel to suck his willy,
And that's what makes you sound so silly,

Now AJ's offering him a shot,
We'd finally see what Luis has got,
    But 6 weeks time's a little short,
To cycle off and not get caught,

So once again I'm asking please,
Just stop this sucking of Ortiz,

I understand Ortiz has a huge motivational factor in his daughter (that is what I call a real man, fighting for his daughter's life). With that said, he clearly has weighed up the options. He can continue to 5 to 6 figures by fighting whoever he's fight, but when the time comes to earn around 5 or 6 million, which is a significant rise, he wants the best possible camp etc because if he wins it, then his new standard income will shoot up for the fights that follow.

It is a simple business decision, remember this guy fought Wilder already, and has fought in numerous foreign countries in other peoples countries etc.

He'd make twice as much vs Joshua than he made vs Wilder + he fought as recent as March (last month)

"Wilder earned $2.1 million for the fight, Ortiz earned $500,000"

I can see Hearn giving Ortiz 2 million + seeing as Fat boy Miller was supposed to be making up to 6 million dollars.

Except he was nowhere near an AJ fight until this Miller test suddenly gave him a shot. If he doesn't take it there's very little chance he gets another. Hearn and Adam Smith are both talking Ortiz up which makes me think the supposed negative response from his management is for show. I think they'll negotiate over the weekend and announce him next week.

Idk why sometimes boxers act like they just train if they have appointed fights... :D

All Jiminez has to do make that clear is come out and say Hearn never called them and they would’ve taken the fight. I really hope for Ortiz’s sake he isn’t going to reject it, especially for the utterly ludicrous reasons he allegedly gave. “Too short notice” and “Wilder promised us a rematch” are moot points when you’re 40 years old and being offered 5-10 times your highest payday with at least one more if you win. 7 weeks isn’t bad anyway. IF Wilder does give him a rematch it won’t be for at least a year. So he’s got a choice between or a guaranteed several million dollars and a potential 500,000ish dollars. Not choosing the former makes me think Jiminez needs his head examined, or that he might just have absolutely no confidence in his fighter’s ability to beat Joshua.
