Toughest division to rank for me. 01 - Eder Jofre 02 - Terry McGovern 03 - Ruben Olivares 04 - Manuel Ortiz 05 - Pete Herman 06 - Carlos Zarate 07 - Panama Al Brown 08 - George Dixon 09 - Joe Lynch 10 - Fighting Harada
My favourite division as well! I don't really like doing lists, always end up of thinking of someone else afterwards but I would have Jofre, Olivares, Zarate, Brown and Ortiz top 5 and interchangeable. Then Harada, McGovern in the bottom half as certs. The last 3 is the hard bit with Canizales, Rose, Pintor, Chandler( got to admit, haven't watched a lot of him) but his record stands out, all good candidates. Plenty of other good bantams though, love to see more of Becerra. Chucho Castillo head to head at his peak is a nightmare for any of them. Fights that should of/could of happened, Chandler-Pintor, Olivares-Harada, Rose-McGowan for me would of been a beautiful fight, nearly happened in 67 for the Empire title. Two others that got away were Rudkin-Medel and Rudkin-Pimentel twice.
10 Kaosai Galaxy 9 Lupe Pintor 8 Jeff Chandler 7 Al Brown 6 Jimmy Carruthers 5 Ruben Olivares 4 Manuel Ortiz 3 Eder Jofre 2 Terry McGovern 1 Carlos Zarate Mentions: George Dixon, Billy Plimmer, Pedlar Palmer, Jimmy Walsh, Kid Williams, Pete Herman, Sixto Escobar, Vic Toweel, Alphonse Halimi, Lionel Rose, Alfonso Zamora, Jeff Fenech, Gilberto Roman, Miguel Happy Lora, Orlando Canizales, Raul Perez, Sung Il Moon and Rafael Marquez
Yeah I can understand putting Al Brown at 1 seeing as he as such a great fighter also. But for me, having Jofre at 2 is like putting Duran at 2 when you're ranking lightweights. imo he's just one step ahead of the rest
LOL...I do have Duran @ #2 for Lightweights, just behind the Great Benny Leonard and just in front of Joe Gans....but they are so close for me that all 3 are interchangeable.
Not only did Khaosai never fight as a genuine bantam (although he was more a featherweight in physicality of course) he's done nothing to warrant being ranked in the top ten even if he was the greatest super fly, which is arguable in itself. Come on Booze!
Don't know if you've seen it but how about this for a war. Johnny Clark vs Paddy Maguire for the British bantamweight title This content is protected This content is protected
