Good fighter, very good, but I was half willing his opponent to bring him back down to earth with a ko, his flashy stuff was disrespectful and it back fired imo
Bit too arrogant for me .. Easy to dance round a guy with 3 knockouts and fight like you think your a prime Roy Jones/ Prince naseem hybrid but he gets tagged but as he goes up levels he will end up counting birds .....tried to like him and I see what he's going for but something tells me if he gets to world level he will get flattened
I have watched all his pro fights and have never seen him show boat as much as he did in this fight. He's obviously drinking his own bath water. Before the fight, I would have said, I was a fan. However while watching this fight, I found myself thinking 'this dude's a ****wit, ultimate poser". Hopefully it's a ' one off '. He seemed to realise in the post fight interview that he kinda sucked on the night.
Couldn't agree more with this, I was really hoping that he'd get KO'd. I think he's far too arrogant for someone who's only had 9 fights.
The look on his face doing it was of a bully that had his opponent out gunned, but that opponent took him way longer than he first thought. I'll be honest, im a bit black and white with my opinions, I still want to see him ko'd lol
I think when the opponents step up in quality, he steps down in cockiness, which in all honesty, I don't mind at all. No point getting annoyed by it, you might as well just enjoy watching him, he is creating the persona of someone who can be hit, maybe purposefully, so that people go in thinking they have a chance of getting through, making him a better prospect to fight. Lets face it, the guy has some real talent, and is producing, nothing like as cocky and vulnerable as that Romeo Romeo fool.
A bit of showboating is ok but he really needs to focus and get the job done and avoid making mistakes. He was too easy to hit last time out and unless he shows better concentration and improves his defence he will struggle at world class level. Right now i don't see him being a world champ. Euro level only.
problem for Josh Kelly is he relies on his reflexes and speed to punch first and move. If he gets against world class/elite fighters who can punch with him in range they will time him clean. Someone like Danny Garcia is all wrong for Josh Kelly he would time him while he is punching and clean him out. His style is a very short lived boxing style, he will get hit a lot more as he gets older and will lose, thats my worry
David AV, managment team on IFL commented again Josh Kelly and Booth turned down the fight twice. Its clear Booth is calling the shots and knows Kelly isn't ready for David AV they swerving him like the plague!
Just watching that video now over lunch. And this all after Booth body proclaimed he would have "no hesitation" in throwing Kelly in with Khan and Brook. What's wrong with a little humility and level headedness?
It defo backfired. It wasn't even the flashiest stuff that bothered me, it was the way Kelly thought his punches had a divine right to land. He wasn't even trying to set his opponent up. He wasn't leaving traps or paying much attention to Runowski's strengths or weaknesses. Every round just throwing the same good-looking punches while pretty much ignoring what the opponent was doing. Runowski was competent enough to avoid being caught clean by this approach, and made Kelly look bad in the process. The flashy stuff can be fine, but only if your boxing is effective (see BJS vs Lemieux).
