3 round fights with big gloves and head gear. Big whoop. How much wear and tear is that going to cause you compared to fighting professionally without head gear and pillows on your hands every month?

Mayweather’s record is padded with guys who were not quite right when he met them. Mosley, Pac, Gatti, Oscar, Cotto, Judah had all seen better days and been exposed previously by other fighters to some extent. It doesn’t detract from Floyds ability but it leaves him open when resorting to fan boy arguments and ad hominem criticism like you’re doing with Chavez.

 

Mayweather beat an entire list of pfp fighters, unlike Chavez.

The risk of serious injury against a cab driver is lower. I mean, there’s always someone available to drive you to the hospital if needed.

Absolutely agree with you here, but let's not pretend GGG wasn't in a situation where he basically needed a KO to win as the cards were clearly stacked against him before the bell even went off

 

Based on the hell Jose Luis Castillo gave Floyd, I am inclined to favor Chavez by decision.

 

While Chavez was better than Castillo overall, Temible was just a naturally bigger opponent. Their styles aren't perfect parallels either. I think Castillo did very well in both the first fight and the rematch. I'm all but alone in this. But his success came from counter-punching to the body in the middle of the ring, which reminds me more of Duran than it does Chavez. He seldom corralled the faster Mayweather into corners for prolonged periods, but he did stand and counter, outworking Floyd often. These subtle differences make me reluctant to dismiss him simply as a cheap knock-off. It's still a valid comparison, and I will admit my opinion is partially colored by the Castillo fights. However, the fight I've settled on as a personal reference for this match-up is the one against Jesus Chavez. Jesus gave Floyd a run for his money before failing due to sheer fatigue. The more accomplished Chavez didn't have issues when it came to stamina, and is the superior fighting machine.

It is not hard to imagine Julio improving upon that gritty, yet in the end workman-like, performance. For whatever reason, in that fight, Floyd had to resort to resting on the ropes, not unlike what Julio forced so many of his opponents to do. It's picking straws, but right now I'm picking Julio because I didn't like what I saw from Mayweather against Chavez.

 

I agree that Castillo did well in the rematch. I scored that fight a draw. The judges scored it for Floyd by a narrow margin.

Chavez SR is a better version than Castillo or Jesus Chavez.I think Julio would win an 8-4 type of decision.I see Chavez taking over in the middle rounds.Not a difficult fight to predict in my view

I like Floyd's chances better than most it seems. Not that I'm picking him for certain, because their contrasting styles bothers me some being that it favors Chavez imo. What I like about Floyd's chances are his obvious talents but it's also about me having a sneaky suspicion that May would frustrate Chavez by clearly out boxing Chavez early; and landing hard right hand counters that deter Chavez from being as aggressive as he needs to be to take this fight. It's a close fight imo and one where Floyd could win.
