If you read my post I mentioned one of the stands at Easter road holds around 7,000 and that's what I guess they would use, unless ticket sales exceeded expectations. It's not impossible that he would attract a lot of the hibs fans to watch if pricing was right, and we had 20k at the edinburgh derby football match there on Sunday.
Me Meadowbank is no more. It’s been bulldozed. Can’t see Easter Road being used. Josh has often said he’d love to fight at the Castle. The stands are up for July & August so maybe too soon for the WBSS final. The Hydro can hold 12k for boxing so that would suffice. I’m hoping now that he’s going to be on Sky he’ll get much more coverage over the next few weeks to boost ticket sales. A win and that hype will be cranked up again. The Prograis fight would potentially be fight of the year material.
Its a great thought, to use the Castle esplanade - it would probably be the most spectacular fight venue ever. However i doubt if the police would allow it. The seating is temporary and aimed at sedentary tourists. Lagered up patriotic boxing fans would be too risky I think - shame though because i would love to see it.
Lol - I'm from Edinburgh and was brought up just along thee road from Ken Buchanan, though staying in Dunkeld now - spent many happy days in my Youth at meadowbank (including watching the speedway). I should have remembered it was getting bulldozed and in fact have probably gone past it in buses on my way to the snooker hall, but age has caught up with me!
I live next to Easter Road. All that’s left if Meadowbank is the floodlights. Aye, some great memories of the place. Seen a few great fights there too. Alex Arthur, Ricky Burns, Lee McAllister etc.
I'm assuming your the frazerbob who posts on Hibs Net ?- never been to a fight there, and never will now it seems!
Although temporary, the stands are very robust. They’re in place for a couple of months. It’s used for gigs every July before the tattoo. Last year they had Noel Gallagher. I’m sure there were plenty lagered up coke heads at that. This year it’s Kylie, the Proclaimers and Paul Weller.
Was it bulldozed just recently then? I thought Taylor fought Vasquez at the Meadowbank, and that was less than 2 years ago. Late 2017 I think. Or am I thinking of the wrong place?
They’ve just finished bulldozing it but it’s been closed for a good few years. The Vasquez fight was at the RHS ground at Ingilston
