I don't think Povetkin is coming back.

it's a shame, he still has a few fights left, but time is not on his side. He supposedly started camp over 2 months ago, without any opponent named, which is kinda weird... so is he just gonna keep training not knowing who he is fighting? Everyone is busy for the next 3-4 months, except for Ortiz, but I doubt they will face each other. I don't see any options for Povetkin at this point in his career and age.

Maybe not but it would probably make sense if he didn’t, he must have earned a lot of money fighting AJ. He’s had 2 chances and , although some success against AJ, ultimately came up well short on both occasions. Like you say, I’m not sure who there is to fight.

Maybe he's following the Warren trend and doesn't reveal his TBA until a couple of days in advance.
I believe he fights at May 18, but it will probably be a relative walkover.

Olympic gold medal winner and former world champion Alexander Povetkin is not event thinking about the end of his career and plans to begin preparing for the next bout in the near future.

Povetkin declared that his next fight has not yet been appointed.

Late last year, Povetkin had surgery on his elbows. Earlier it was reported that he could hold the next fight on a date in May, possibly against Oleksandr Usyk, who was making his debut at heavyweight - but the deal never came together and now Usyk is facing Carlos Takam.

While there are some fans who believes the Russian veteran should retire from the sport, he wants to walk away from the ring on a very high note and not on the back of a knockout loss.

“I'm not thinking about the end of my career at this point. As I said, there is still a desire to continue and strength in my body. We’ll see how the body behaves, but I don’t plan to finish my career right now and I’m ready to start preparing for the next fight,” said Povetkin.

Povetkin has a record of 34 wins (24 by KO) and two losses. The boxer will soon be 40 years old.

“I'm training, and I've practically recovered after elbow surgery. There was a lot of talks that I would fight with Usyk and I was interested in this fight. In time we will figure out our next move," Povetkin said.

The Usyk fight may still happen after Takam, could be a big event in Russia and a good way to bow out?

Good fighter. Would of pasted Wilder in 2015. Too old now and still gave Joshua a good fight. Have one last farewell fight and call it a day.

A over rated hype job who never ever delivered while hiding in Russia..........stepped up twice, got man handled twice like a toddler by glass chinned WK and a stiff Bodybuilder.

    The definition of a mirage.

I imagine he'll cash out against Usyk at some point. Maybe near the end of the year, or the 1st half of 2020. That fight makes the most sense for all involved. Then it'll be sayonara Sasha.

He was beating Joshua before the stoppage, should have taken a knee before the KO. Anyway, he was a terrific and exciting offensive minded fighter, I don't think he will get better than he was vs Joshua. Usyk, Whyte or Ortiz fight would be a good ending.
