It seems to me that there is not much separating the top three middleweights in the world right now, with Glovkin being slightly the best of the three.
Jacobs already has to pay Canelo for being over 170 pounds. Meanwhile Canelo was likely 180 vs GGG and refused to step on the scale. Off the PED's Canelo looks much smaller, so he put that 170 rule in for Jacobs, and now Jacobs must pay him a lot of money. Scores were 115-113, 115-113, 116-112 in a bout with many close rounds, any one of which scored the other way could have turned it into a well-deserved draw. I want to see the full score cards, with a focus on rounds 9 and ten to see if Jacobs won them, as by the write up it sounds like he did. My prediction was a draw on may card with the judges giving Canleo the close rounds to make sure he won. Is that what happened? I have not seen the fight yet.
Lookie here, two judges gave Canelo the 10th round. Is this fair? If Jacobs won the ten round on both of their cards, this fight is a DRAW. The one judge who gave Jacobs the 10th round could afford to as only gave Jacobs 3 of the first 9 rounds. " Jacobs still proved dangerous though, landing the best punch of the fight by either fighter with a huge left hook that stunned Canelo in round nine, prompting Canelo’s corner to ask if he was hurt after the round. The momentum from that left hook seemed to carry into round ten, with Jacobs getting the better of the action" Okay so if Jacobs won the 10th on the cards of most at ESB, this might be a case BS. Kovalev had the same problem, he clearly won the 10th beyond doubt our Ward, but the judges all three of them gave one of his best round to Ward. I won't have time to watch the fight today, but will follow this thread. Like I've been saying, a judge can alter a close fight in one round, and it usually happens later. You put a lot of stock in who the”majority” think won....with just over 100 votes in (as of now) Canelo won on 75% of cards. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/your-verdict-canelo-vs-jacobs.628740/
Turns out I was wrong. I picked Canelo to TKO what I thought would be a washed up Jacobs. But Jacobs came on strong and Canelo once again proved that he's nothing special. He never went the extra mile, as a champion should. I scored the fight 5-4-3 for Jacobs, but I can easily see Canelo winning
Nope. Jacobs' jab was just as ineffective, and non-snappy as I thought it would be. He pushes it out there, and never punches through the target with it. He touches the gloves usually, rarely touches the opponents face with it, and damn sure not in an impactful manner, it's more a touch. It's one of his major flaws as a fighter. Top five, six foot, weighty middleweight, with a jab that probably isn't in the top 30 in the division.
His jab has always been fairly disappointing since his comeback. Maybe it was better, more snappier when he was younger, I don't recall. He has one of the worst jabs of a top level guy that I can recall.
