AU REVOIR GOPHEER! God speed and so long to my friend and greatest poster in forum history. Someday I hope to see you on the other side.
That's a good one! I was thinking the same thing about Chavez fighting him. I think Williams would make his real estate on the inside too expensive for Chavez.
We don't really need to speculate about the Williams-Joyce matchup since they fought four times. Joyce won three and Williams one. Angott and Williams also fought three times. Angott won two and Williams one, although Angott outweighed Ike by at least four pounds each time. Angott weighed around 140 for each fight, so how they would have fared against each other when Sammy was a true lightweight is an open question. Williams lost a few fights, but it was always against the best, and as near as I can tell, the fights were always close.
Montgomery absolutely destroyed Williams. Not close at all. From memory, Joyce once beat him at a canter, too. The last or second last one, whichever one he wasn't down in. He had other wide losses too, but these were the two standouts at lightweight, which I think is what was meant.
No he hasn't (post #34) https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/willie-pep-the-greatest-pure-boxer-of-all-time.546725/page-3
Duran he beats everybody @135 IMO B. Leonard Arguello Ortiz is 50/50 Buchanan 50/50 The criminally underrated Amber's is 50/50 I would favor Ross That's about it. The prime Ike that didnt have to play ball beats the rest.
Burt and the late, great John Garfield are two of my absolute all time favourites from this site. Gents who actually saw the guys first hand that we speculate on using poor quality footage and hindsight.
These are my top 6 Lw's all time, Williams is 6th, so the 5 above him I think beats him. Benny Leonard Roberto Duran Joe Gans Henry Armstrong Barney Ross Ike Williams
