Larry had more than a jab, otherwise he wouldn't have the 3rd longest reign in his division's history. He had underrated mid range slugging ability, good body shots, good head movement, and of course his big uppercut and laser right cross (which had impeccable timing i might add, especially when he had his man hurt/in the corner and lined their head up with his left). If Byrd eliminated Holmes' jab he'd have a new set of problems: a pissed off larry whose willing to rumble and mix it up. He had a larger frame than Byrd and a better chin, a brawl would be in his favor.
Great post. I agree with your picks. Foreman and Lewis would be around evens and Ali, Tyson and Frazier faves. I'd also put Liston at evens and Louis i would pick. It took me years to come around to Tyson here but Stonehands eventually convinced me, or wore me down!!!! lol All very very tough fights with the possible exception of Ali and potentially Foreman.
Prime for prime, I think it's the exception where any of the top 15 or so has an easy time with any of the rest of it.
Probably this ^ I suspect our idols are a lot closer to each other in ability than we realise. Things like stage of career, stylistic matchup, form on the day, and sheer luck can be more important with regard to who wins a H2H that their position on a top 10 list.
Yeah, your right. He doesn’t beat them all, but he gives every heavyweight in history a tough, tough fight.
I think just that day is understated, as well as stuff like the plan they happen to thave. Whenever fighters have multiple fights it's rare to just see it play out the same way
Holmes is 8th on my list, but I'm sure any top 10 list at anytime on any given night we just don't know for sure who the best would be, and no one might not dominate consistantly.
And since I'm trying to get my post totals up like a lot of others in these forums, I will be adding useless posts after I reply to other posts. So BUMP! LOL!
