What he should do is not take the Canelo fight and instead make big money from the Pacquiao fight. Remember that Pacquiao brings a lot of money to the table too. One side of me wants him to face Canelo just so I can see his embarrassed face afterwards. Can't stand Spence, he thinks he's a god when he just isn't. He hasn't fought anybody yet. Mikey was clearly way overrated because he didn't even win a round against Spence. Even as a smaller guy, if he was as good as we thought, he'd be winning 2 or 3 rounds AT LEAST. He didn't even do that. And Brook had broken eyes and was drained heavily. You can say 'Oh but Spence caused that'. He did, but then you've got to ask yourself 'why hasn't that happened with other fighters, why didn't he break those eyes in too?'. The answer is that Brook has an issue with those eyes, probably from birth. Nobody gets the same injury twice in a row on different eyes unless they have serious problems with them. He was also completely dead at the weight. Not Bellew or McDonnell style, but still dead at the weight. And he still outboxed Spence for 7 rounds before the eye injury happened. I had it 5-2 going into the 7th, others had 4-3/5-2 as well. The majority thought Brook had the edge after 7. But don't worry Errol, because you won't be milking money for much longer. The Kazakh amateur superstar Daniyar Yeleussinov will bring this american hype train to a halt in a year or two. And he'll take Crawford to school while he's at it.
I'd also say watching Brook v Spence was one of those occasions when I got a very strong feeling that a fighter wasn't clean. Obviously nothing to back that up with and I've seen plenty suspicious of Brook also in this regard as I have for other fighters. Still, innocent till proven guilty and all that.
It depends entirely on how Spence approaches the fight. If he fights like Mikey did, which was to not really fight at all and simply go into a defensive shell so he wouldn't get hurt, then it could be an easy payday. I don't think Spence would do this but that is an easy way to earn $20M. I personally don't care for these types of fights. Stay in your weight division, possibly going up one division as you naturally take on the weight but to go up two weight divisions to fight one of the best in that division is not prudent, regardless of the kind of money being offered. Because, frankly, I think Spence is more in the driver's seat on this one than Canelo and I think Spence actually makes more money in the long run moving up naturally.
I think a lot of people are seriously underestimating Spence's upside. Yes, Spence has gotten buzzed on two different occasions, but he weathered the storm and took out his opponent. This happens to a lot of great fighters.
I mean...to be honest I agree with you. Maybe Brook is shady. BUT..I think Spence is cheating too. We've seen glimpses over the past 2 years that Spence is protected and he doesn't seem to want anything to do with VADA at all. And even if he has been tested, Haymon will have had a few whispers in ears, you can pretty much guarantee it. I think Spence will eventually get caught. I am certain that he is cheating big time. But regardless, that won't help him against Canelo at middleweight or Yeleussinov at welter. He's getting smoked by both.
It's not right to accuse a guy of cheating unless there is clear evidence indicating he is. I've seen nothing to indicate Spence is cheating.
I will be surprised if De La Hoya and co haven’t already negotiated about half of those conditions in place already.
You are right Jack, I can only say that's what was going through my head when I watched the fight. To make clear, this isn't a Brit / US thing, I felt the same way watching David Haye and there's no evidence against him either.
It's not a good move at all for Spence at this point in his career. It was a dam fool move for Mikey and Spence knew it. Why would he commit the same mistake. Don't make sense. All money ain't good money. He will fight Canelo on his terms, or more even terms, not just on Canelo's terms. Canelo made that mistake with Mayweather and has never repeated it. Spence is in a great position now, no need to change that.
Spence has also called out Canelo at least three different times. Spence is also not fighting the top welterweights.
I think it’s quite evident that pbc has not been able to produce a mega start who commands 20 million a fight! Mayweather was already a star when ah haymon got a hold of him! All these are missing the big picture! Spence cannot make 20+ million anywhere else at this stage of his career and probably not ever! You can all here talk about the Crawford fight but none will get paid 20 million plus for that fight!
Yes take the 20 million. He'd be dumb not to. Thats why I don't **** on Mikey for fighting Spence. Mikey made a career payday. Spence would be making more money for this one fight than what he could make in his next 5 fights combine.
He just saw how it worked out for Garcia. Take your time and move up in weight the right way. Handle your business and that payday will still be there, and you will have a chance of winning it.
