In an effort to be honest and completely transparent, I did buckle once, but there were extenuating circumstances. I did at the last minute, in a moment of weakness, due to a mania to get ahead of Drew in Kirk's league in the Daredevil competition, I went with Gallimore, but I had very little faith in Gallimore, and that was after he'd looked incredibly subpar against Ishe, and the bookies had started favoring Gallimore, also UTF was pushing that as well, that was as cynical a pick as I've ever made. And I was ashamed after I made it. But that's what happens with that damn league sometimes.:shakehead: It was actually that fight that caused me to stop giving a damn about the league for a while, and smacked me back into reality. And caused me to play with my heart and mind, than for callous cold wins. And UTF for that matter, who along with me, were the only two guys that made up for our cynicism last year and rode with J-Rock last night.

I picked Hurd to win, due to J-Rock's bad gas tank in the Gallimore fight, lackluster performance against Smith, and also Hurd's record of coming on strong in the second half, and imposing his size and will on his more talented, but significantly smaller opponents. I figured Rock would gas out around the 9th or 10th and Hurd would finish him. Props to him and his trainer for bringing in that strength and conditioning coach to shore up that gas tank. A focused Williams is pound for pound material. I don't think he's getting enough credit for what he just did last night, due to people's dislike of Hurd. True, Hurd isn't the most talented guy, but his total package as a boxer is very formidable, similar to how Margarito was at welter. Hurd beat Lara cleaner than Canelo. He beat Trout's arse worse than Canelo. He stopped Harrison as well. Not only did Williams beat him. He stood in the phone booth for much of the fight, out punching, and out muscling the significantly bigger man. Hurd couldn't walk down ****, because Williams was in his chest, beating his arse. That's impressive stuff.

That didn't weigh as heavily on my mind this time, Julian I think is one of those guys that fights to the level of his competition, and its hard to get yourself all worked up for an Ishe Smith or Gallimore fight, this one however, this was easy to get up for. I knew from the moment this fight was signed that a J-Rock that was firing on all cylinders could dominate Hurd, but like you the only doubt was the stamina, but I figured that he'd realize that too, since its been a problem lately and focus on improving it. Julian is a smart guy and an astute student of the game, and you could tell even in looking less than stellar recently, he fixed many of his defensive lapses he had against Charlo. Anyway, I'm pretty sure if I saw the pathway to victory for him, like in my post on Chuck's thread, he did too. And had the wherewithal to implement it perfectly, because he was backed into a corner, and he wanted it more than anything, and his willpower and determination thrown in, Julian simply would not be denied last night.

And yeah, he deserves a ton of credit for it, as much as I slag on Hurd, my main gripe is, he's a ****ing Light Heavyweight who's a weight cutter, so the fact that Julian was able to neutralize an dominate him the way he did, that was one of the top performances from a fighter in the last year, hell... I saw flashes of Ward last night in him. In fact, I saw a lot. It was a brilliant performance.

    Same here.:deal:

I'm over the moon thrilled, like you, I was big on J-Rock and Harrison, so to see them now as the co-kingpins of the divisions, is beyond satisfying. With the exception of that cynical Gallimore pick, I never wavered on either. I stuck to my guns with Harrison as well, I picked him to beat Hurd, and goddammit he was until he wasn't. And I picked him not out of reflex, but because I believed in him, to beat Charlo. What a gut wrenching night that was. I picked Korobov and Harrison for the upsets.

I went with Williams against Gallimore although at the time it was not a pick of confidence. I thought you did too unless I'm misremembering?

There's precedent for this as well. Gallimore appears to be ruined as a result of his encounter with J-Rock. He had some limitations going into the fight sure bit he was a tough guy who could often rally with his power. He didn't look the same against Teixeira.
