Yeah, but with Lalonde, he was just rusty.. He looked older and he had to adjust to punching, which he is not a big big puncher at that higher weight. Against Duran? he won, I don't know. His style beat Duran. Against Hearns he should have had a loss in the rematch.
The Hagler fight ,for me ,was the beginning of the end for Ray . He was strugglin at times against Donny ,lucky for Ray he wasnt a great Light heavy or hed have been beat . And he WAS def beat in the Hearns fight no doubts .Against Duran ..well what can you say ?Duran didnt even try ,he was gone ,a shell . Thrn Terrible Terry walked through Ray preety much .That should have been it but Rays ego came up for air and challenged the Macho man ..Game over ,when it should have been done years ago .
Leonard was never giving immediate rematches to these 2 in a million years. But in this twilight zone October 1987 srl v hagler 2. Marvin comes in at 157 lbs which raises eyebrows...leonard is even sharper...after a very cagey opening and the fight dead even after 4....srl catches hagler with a hard counter left hook,amazingly hagler is wobbled...the follow up blizzard from ray leaves marvins face cut to shreds as the round ends the commentators r saying the cuts are too bad the fights over...the petronellis send him out....blinded by blood a valiant hagler charges out and is met by more slashing counters...marvin throws a low blow and ray than swallows two hard rights to.go down..he gets up and tge fight continues as an all out war the remaining 6 which hagler manages to win on a split decision.
