Philly. How can you not mention Smokin' Joe I am dismayed. Flabbergasted. Dumbfounded. Befuddled. El dente. Gravueted. I'm disappointed in ya. Nuff said.
Good call! I missed this one earlier somehow? I have been meaning to check some of his fights again....might add them to my next week list.
Because I am tired of HW’s on this forum over and over again. But he is in a small handful of HW’s worth talking about!
But Marciano and Frazier are answers to yr question. As is Frank Fletcher. Marvin Johnson. Jose Gatica. Aaron Pryor. Art Hafey. Mancini before Arguello. Gomez.
Please don’t mention Marciano (he who must not be named) in this thread....I am afraid we will get 49 pages in this thread.
Always good to see Fletcher get a mention in any thread! A shame outside of you I don’t hear him mentioned very much.
I was there for all of his fights. Pure heart of a wolverine or honey badger. To me, my definition of greatness. For 3 yrs. he had lightning in a bottle. As I said, my absolute favorite fight was being at Fletcher-Singletary August 31, 1981. Thats why I celebrate it every yr. Another guy I saw fairly often was Hamsho. Fletcher vs. Hamsho. My ultimate dream fight. Katy bar the door.
I was supposed to go, but my Pop Pop got sick around that time. I was looking forward to it as a birthday gift, I had never been ...you don’t happen to have the footage of his brother vs Bramble from that night do ya?
Thanks for mentioning Bad Bennie. The was a fighter that was one of the great draws in history. A crowd favorite in the early 40s. A vicious era of lightweights this drew $. Beau Jack! I think Bob Montgomery was another. Zack Padilla
