I love Foreman and have great respect for all he has accomplished but have to say the first career Foreman may be the most over rated heavyweight champ of all time ... he was a raw talent, wild swinging, with some exceptional physical gifts but glaring, unpolished weaknesses ... he had two significant wins over two men that stylistically were made for him. The Ali defeat was in my opinion more of an unveiling of his limitations than an Ali accomplishment .. the airbrushed story has been if we were somehow able to take the physical skills of George 1 and blend them w George 2's brain. We can't ... Ali, Holmes, Vitali, Tyson, Lennox and Liston all beat him ... so do Joe Louis, Riddick Bowe, Holyfield ( who would have an easier time than he did in 91, and more than a few others ..

Son, if Ali and Young backed up and knocked down Foreman, you bet your little ass Holmes would. Tell me those guys hit harder than Holmes, numbnuts, and get ready to be laughed off the forum. You are behaving like a willfully ignorant suckpump.

Wow, judging by this poll, Foreman is the 3rd best overall. Foreman is overrated. A big puncher for sure. Good defense, good speed, and good stamina for the later round, he did not have.

Foreman's performance vs Ali was rather dreadful, and he was nearly beaten by Lyle. Jimmy young showed how easy he was to out box.

Essentially Foreman's going to get rid of the smaller swarmers or the average chined or below fighters, but I don't see him outboxing the best, and if Lyle could hurt hin easy, lots of guys on the list could too. And there are better boxers than Lyle on this list.

As a what if, suppose a young Larry Holmes was the sub for Juimmy Young and he beat Foreman. Could you argue Holmes #1 of all time? I think so. Foreman avoided Holmes, even in the 1990's

Really? Who did Jeffries and Johnson and Dempsey and Baer and Tunney, between them, face and beat who was even in the league athletically with Foreman? Jeffries and Tunney are really deplorable mentions and should be deserving of some sort of ban,

First I ask you to tell me the times you're referencing for Holmes showing good tie up abilities.

You're a clown. Ali wasn't backing Foreman up... he got backed up most the entire fight till he got tired. Young fought a Foreman who clearly wasn't at the peak of his powers so it's irrelevant. What's worse, he wasn't doing well because of backing him up or even backing up Foreman. Knocking someone down doesn't mean you're the stronger guy and backing him up for the fight. That's silly to think that way. Sometimes you get caught coming in, sometimes you tire yourself out from backing the guy up most of the fight. Anyways, we see things differently

You either need to watch those fights again or just admit you're wrong. Watch the first Shavers fight and Mercer for prime examples of Larry tying people up in high style. Just admit that you didn't have your facts straight man. As it is, I know too much about Holmes to take you seriously. Give it up, because it really is just a forum, and you've already been proved wrong. Not that I care anymore. Good luck, really son.

No way Marciano beats him. Foreman was too strong and would be shoving the Rock back into the ropes all night while bombing away with power. It's virtually unwinnabe for the undersized Rocky. If 1919 rules, and Dempsey can get the KD early MAYBE he can do enough damage early to get Foreman out, but that is seriously unlikely and big stretch.
