Salvador Sanchez vs. Ruben Castillo. I had it a draw in my head when I first saw this bout. But here is how I have it when sitting down and studying it..

    Round 1: 10-9 Castillo
    Round 2: 10-10 Even
    Round 3: 10-9 Castillo
    Round 4: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 5: 10-10 Even
    Round 6: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 7: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 8: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 9: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 10: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 11: 10-9 Castillo
    Round 12: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 13: 10-9 Castillo
    Round 14: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 15: 10-10 Even

    Total: 146-142 Sanchez

Sanchez was never the best against boxers. He really shone against sluggers whom he could counter-punch into knots. But despite boxers not being his wheelhouse, he was still too good for them and Castillo was a good one. But no robbery. Sanchez deserved it in a good close fight.

I watched this fight about a month ago after watching an interview with Castillo and JCC where he seems to feel he was robbed in that fight. I didn’t think so....and on rewatch I see no case for Castillo!

I can't see a case for Castillo. He did well early, but Sanchez began to control it late, as was his custom. It would have been a robbery had they given it to Castillo.

Castillo swears to this day that he won the fight. I watched it pretty recently and thought Sanchez won by closing strong, probably 2 or three point margin if I had been keeping score.

Ruben says that both Arguello and Chavez are better than Sanchez and would stop him. He fought Arguello less than 90 days before the Sanchez fight and was stopped in 11, then had another fight about 40 days before the Sanchez fight.

No fighter ever lost a close fight. Just ask any of them.

Sanchez won close but clear. I felt Castillo was probably up clearly after 4 but by the 10th round it was even and Sanche got the better of it down the stretch.

I felt the Ford fight was closer but again not close enough to take from Sal.

Agreed. I had the Ford fight dead even going into the final round.

In no way a robbery. Sanchez just struggled to lead so lost a few rounds that way. 10-5 or 9-6 IIRC

Yeah, Sanchez definitely excelled better against guys that tried to take his head off.

The Castillo, Ford, Cowdell fights are a lot less impressive to most than the Lopez, Gomez and Nelson fights but his poise, patience and overall calmness about how he knew how the latter rounds would go were so impressive in those fights. To think he was 21, 22 in those bouts too.
