Yeh it was a behind the gloves interview last week with MJP. Fury said he meant 3 fights this year then rest and no retirement because he's the happiest he been (apparently) We'll see though, Fury says one thing and does another
Remember the rematch with Wlad?they had aspirations of filling a football stadium and then cancelled when it was clear nobody gave a s*** lol.
This will do poor numbers. Fury’s popular in the same way that supporting an endangered animal is popular; you’ll support it, and be happy that it’s doing well, but as soon as they ask you to delve into your own pocket the door gets shut firmly in its face. Fury’s PPV providing it’s the right dance partner. This is not that.
Quite a good analogy to be fair. I like fury but this is surely doing terrible numbers. AJ - Ruiz isn’t a great fight but we all know the casuals will lap up anything with Joshua. Fury hasn’t got that same popularity, he needs to be fighting a name.
Indeed. Joshua is the only true UK PPV star. Fury is that next tier down, similar to Whyte, or Bellew before he retired, and obviously Wilder. PPV stars providing it’s the right duo. Even Joshua is expected to have his numbers halved in the UK with this next fight, given the time difference.
It's actually incredible that they've chosen a boring unknown German as the opponent here, whatever his ranking. It seems like the worst choice for a Las Vegas fight and Furys' first fight with ESPN/Arum. It makes no sense.
Scheduling it for 2 weeks after Joshua v Ruiz is possibly going to hurt it but possibly help it. It depends how fat boy does against AJ. Unless Ruiz comes out and makes it a tough and competitive fight, PPV buyers in the UK are going to feel a bit disappointing seeing Joshua pummel a fat boy in a few rounds. They are hardly going to be inspired to buy the less popular Fury going up against a boring unknown unspectacular German underdog a couple of weeks later. But if Ruiz does well, the fans will be more open to take a chance on Fury-Schwarz. The better undedog Ruiz does, the better Fury's chances of actually attracting some buys for the Schwarz fight.
This content is protected Worse than this. Frank has now said that most likely ALL Furys fights going forwards will be PPV. This is now becoming an absolute joke for boxing fans. Its the fight that makes it PPV, not the fighter. I don't think anybody begrudges handing over a few quid for a fight like AJ v Wlad, GGG v Canelo or Kovalev v Ward but they are really pushing to see what the worst fight is they can get away with now. Floyd Mayweather has a lot to answer for!
