Lol Gene Tunney? You were making good points until you mentioned his name. This content is protected Gene Tunney vs Dempsey. Gene Tunney wasn't a heavyweight. He was a 170 pound fighter who put on a little weight toward the end of his career. So just the size alone would mean he coudln't beat any modern sized and skilled heavyweight. But even with his limited skills he couldn't even beat any 170 pound fighter today.
I won't argue with you about his lack of size for modern HW boxing, but if his skills were limited then Dempsey would have knocked him down/out every round
One unorthodox clip of Carnera training and the modernists come out into the light and proclaim grand theories of modern supremacy. Then a clip like this gets posted for added context, and they all revert back into the shadows.
Lol dude Dempsey was even more unskilled. That wild arm swinging style wouldn't work today. So because Tunney was more skilled than Dempsey that means Tunney was skilled compared to modern fighters? Come on kid.
Right and Wilder is still far more skilled than Dempsey and Wilder is also 6'6 and weighed as much as 230 until he started coming in light. Dempsey was 6'0 190 pounds. If you think a 6'0 190 pound guy like Dempsey could compete against modern sized and modern skilled heavyweights then you are beyond a casual fan. Nice try though.
Man: Dempsey’s wild swinging style wouldn’t work today. Another man: What about Wilder Man: He’s 6’6 Everyone: ?
Right bye bye casual fan you are ignored. I thought I already ignored you. Keep living in your fantasy world where 180-190 pound fighters from 70 80 plus years ago could beat modern sized fighters. Blocked.
Who do you think would win, Gene Tunney or George Foreman? I've never seen you comment on this and I'd be very interested to see your views on it.
people like you make me laugh, first off 'Blocked' it's a flippin discussion sight, why would you block someone who simply RESPECTFULLY Disagrees with you??? 2, Reznick and so many others are not Casual Fans, they are serious fan and many of them researchers... 3rd, that RESTORED Properly Footage of Tunney Shows Perfectly NORMAL Boxing, NO DIFF than today!!! 4th, couldn't fight TODAY's HWs, well by that you Mean Todays GIANTS, over 6'5 and over 225lbs... yeah SO???? It's NOT HW, it's a Different Division!!! now If you want to talk, men like Tunney, Joe Louis and Marciano and the HUNDREDS of others, Well Talk Right, they would be fighting ALL of Todays 170lb - 210 Men, Same Day weight, … so that is Most of todays S-MWs to L-HWs... well the boys in the past fought these size men ALL day long, a fight a month, times either side of 15 year careers against Mostly the Top & Noted Men. So IF you can't compare Like for Like, then your the UNINFORMED Casual Talking Utter Nonsense. and the Decent sensibly Men Wouldn't Block your for it either. Like for Like!!!
Marcos maidana? Doesn't matter if you found Dempsey unskilled. He was a highly explosive puncher and a conditioned athlete. Regardless of his punching technique, he would have had great accuracy, timing and judgement of distance based on fighting experience alone. A trainer doesn't teach you those things the way he would teach textbook technique, those just come through hours of sparring and fighting. The fact that tunney schooled him makes him skilled period. Somebody who was the best in the world at knocking people out couldn't do it to him. If they were unskilled then couldn't you just put any football player in there with a Dempsey and the football player would win since he's bigger? No. Obviously not. Yes technique got better, but fighting skills come in many shapes and are all learned through time spent training and fighting
Same old same old. What would a prime Willard look like in 2000? What would a prime (either) Klit look like in 1920? For all the marbles! A prime 1920 Klit brother against a prime 2000 Willard? I continue (and I'm just a duffus for doing so) trowel out my mantra that you can't compare Eras, especially Decades apart. Oh well, my $0.02
