I strongly favor Wilder to win this contest but I would like to discuss what all of you think are keys to victory for Breazeale, possible pathways, or why you may favor him for victory. Breazeale is 20-1 with 18 knockouts and is a legitimate power puncher. He’s probably not as hard of a hitter as Wilder is, and doesn’t have the kind of intimidating aura that Wilder possesses, but there is little doubt that Breazeale has the power to get the job done. This post will quickly focus upon his jab though. Use The Jab. Breazeale enters the contest with a 2 inch reach advantage and in order to prevail he needs to consistently employ the jab. This is crucial if you watch contests in which Wilder’s (supposedly inferior) opponents have employed it in the past to good effect. We saw this for example in the first 4 rounds from Gerald Washington. Washington was an overmatched opponent but utilized a single repetitive jab (and not much else) to keep Wilder at bay. Wilder is used to a height and reach advantage entering the ring. Wilder, though, is quicker and has the faster hands and feet. He does however struggle to employ a steady jab himself. Breazeale has shown a relatively strong jab throughout his career thus far. This will be one of the keys to a possible victory for him. What additional keys are there for him to win in your eyes?
I disagree with the jab thing. First off Breazeale is easy to counter. Way too easy. He brings his hand back low after jabbing. Sooner or later Wilder is coming right over the top of it & he'll catch him clean. I think he needs to try and feint Wilder. And move away from the right hand and try circling to his left. Make Wilder use his left hook which is nothing special. But it puts him further away from that right hand landing clean. So do not be at 12:00. do not jab and leave himself wide open for a right hand over the top. Muscle Wilder whenever possible and throw uppercuts on the inside---Wilder will lean in whenever close. But at some point Dominic is going to have to dig deep and weather a storm or two. The question becomes if he can rally himself after absorbing punishment. Or say he gets hurt, can he kill the clock and not have the ref wave it off?
Very hard to give him a chance tbh. His only world lvl competitive fight was against an improving AJ and he got smashed to pieces and picked off at will like low hanging fruit. It's quite telling that your OP is very thoughtful and you havn't mentioned the AJ fight once. "Styles makes fights" grates on me but Breazeale is taylor made for Wilders best attributes. That said, Breazeale is a massive human being, strong, and is very very tough. Needs a bit of luck and he has a chance. Problem is Wilder is very focused. He's not taking this lightly coz this fight is just a stepping stone for him for a bigger pay day. Wilder is very hungry and wont be caught napping.
He’s damned if he does and he’s damned if he doesn’t. Come forward that is. Joshua had Breazeale backing up most of the night, and he was quite easy to hit. However, when Breazeale comes forward he becomes ridiculously easy to hit. So what’s best for him? I’ve got nothing of substance. He needs to do lots of things that aren’t in his arsenal. He could catch Wilder on the counter I guess. Hopefully he’s got a few more strings to his bow.

Breazeale does not belong in the top ten. The benchmark here is how fast can Wilder beat him. Faster than AJ? For Breazeale to win he might as well go for broke, and throw lots of hard right hands and out his excess weight down on Wilder's peg leg's in the clinches to wear him out. Wilder really isn't a boxer either. His power bails him out. While Wilder's chin isn't complete glass, its below average. If not for selective match making someone would have stopped him by now.
This is it. Dude's got to go for broke early, hope he lands first, and clean enough to finish the job. He's way too open for counters to have success if the fight lasts. His window is early, or not at all
1. Wilder cannot defend jabs nor does he throw back when being thrown at. Throwing jabs is a must if Breazeales going to win. 2. Wilders sneak punch is going to be the left hook here , that's the punch you don't want him to throw bc Breazeale is more susceptible to them. W8th taller guys ( see also Negron) 3. The right hand from Wilder has yet to really show effectiveness against a proven chin. The taller guy will take velocity off Wilders technique which is punching downward. Breazeales best bet is absorbing a straight shot not one around the side he may not see it behind the head. ( see the Joshua second round / left hook ) 4. Wilders going to hit Breazeale anyway, mounting jabs followed by rights by Breazeale will surely shut him down enough to land something big ,he can't worry about being countered. 5. Breazeale needs to throw minimum hook body shots bc that's where counters become dangerous for a Wilder hook ...stiff straight arm jabs is what's needed to knock Wilder off balance and then attack full force right there and repeat whenever possible , bc he has to reset to have distance .....He's very uncomfortable on the fly/move . 6. Wilders going to try and bring Breazeales hands down by stiff jabs to the lower area. breazel needs to ignore it bc wilder is going ...in a 1.body. 2.head sequence ..it could be a right hand or left? As soon as Wilder toucjhes his lower body Breazeale needs to step back just out of range ,wilder is useless then . 7. Easiest thing to do like I've said all along is put Wilder on back foot while throwing at him , don't let him time anything. mix this ingredients ....... winner : Breazeale
Breazeales reach is 81 1/2 . The jab is pivotal here ...but he's obviously taller by at least 1/2 inch......neither matter really....Wilder has difficulties matching jabbers.
Please do not ask real technical boxing questions from a crowd that has never boxed and calls pro boxing warriors cowards and bums.
yes use the jab and be willing to punch during exchanges. He is going to have to gamble to get the win, and that is a problem with Wilder since he hits so hard. If he wins it will be a little bit of luck and Wilder's weak chin. He might have to take some punches and survive in order to get the win. Can he?
Breazeale needs to get his punches off first and stay out of the middle of the ring and keep Wilder's back against the ropes. When Wilder gets space and can move freely he'll eventually time you. I seen both Breazeale and Wilder spar each other a few times with both my trainer and the head trainer at our gym Sal guiding both of them back in 2012. Breazeale eventually got the better of Wilder in the sparring, but at the end of the day it was only sparring. Sal, kept instructing Breazeale to back Wilder in the corner where Wilder can't get leverage to punch and to go to work on him.
This. Sal, who was the head instructor at the fight factory said all of the same things about Wilder to Breazeale when they were sparring each other at our gym. I also agree that Wilder has a good right hand, but its when he puts combinations together that makes him dangerous, but he rarely does and over relies on his big right hand, which makes him predictable.
