I said nothing about whatever off the court issues Kobe had. Kobe also won rings without Shaq.

There is nothing to suggest that Ali was more dedicated than every other athlete. He was out of shape many times. And even though he was competitive, there's no way of proving he was more competitive than anyone else.

    None, IMO.

There will be fighters who expect to lose, and that's not healthy. But if their opponents don't execute accordingly, their confidence will grow. You see this sometimes - an unheralded challenger starts tentatively, doesn't get what he expected, and boxes his way into the fight. You can most commonly see it in British level title fights of some description.

He certainly was in better physical shape I agree, but in the days leading up to the fight Tyson was complaining about the ref, the judges, then in the dressing room he was complaining about Holyfields loud gospel music, then when he got in the ring it was written all over his face.

Was Kobe Bryant getting punched in the face. Pro basketball and pro boxing have absolutely nothing in common as far as physical damage is concerned and can't be compared. Besides Michael Jordan had the greatest will to win in my opinion not Kobe Bryant in pro basketball. American Football comes close as far as physical damage is concerned but it's not sustained. In other words if the offense is on the field, the defense is usually resting, taken in fluids , meds etc. Combat sports, be it boxing, UFC, Greco Roman wrestling, are on a completely different level than team sports, they cant be compared. How many times Kobe completely a game with a broken Jaw? Concussed?

As far as the racism is concerned, was it because he was born and raised that way, or was it because of the Hate , That Hate produced scenario? Ali did a lot of wrong, especially early in his career, when he was young and stupid. But most young men do, but towards the end he realized his mistakes and changed them. How many KKK members, Neo Nazi's, NOI, members can say the same?

Here's one not mentioned; Leonard in the Camacho fight.

Ray was so used to being the star and getting the admiration and get under the other guy's skin. He sure did not do any of that 1 iota against Hector and it was Camacho stealing the thunder. But Camacho was doing his fast flurries thing prefight in the ring and it was Leonard who looked like a guy that recognized much too late, that he was in for a tough night's work. And it looked like Ray was surprised how big the former 130 pounder actually was.

But it sure looked to me like Leonard knew he had no chance at the ring introductions. Way too much confidence from the Macho Man and total disdain for Leonard. And Ray sure did not like having to wear the shoe on the other foot for a change.

    Tyson before Lewis
    Spinks before Tyson
Possibly Hagler before Leonard (though many say Hag won it)
McCall before his 2nd fight with Lewis
